PS5

It does look pretty interesting. Just confounds me why they've waited so long to release any proper gameplay footage and makes me a bit weary of a day 1 purchase. I'll give it a week or two and see what the critics (those that count) say.

The preview does look good. I do agree with you about waiting for decent reviews, but the caveat is that this is a PS exclusive - and they have a great track record recently of releasing games in a decent state. Not claiming perfection from them, but I don't expect a No Mans Sky/Cyberpunk 2077 debacle.

Yea same...and not ashamed of it! My desire to replay is very low, even as great as these games are. And I just could not be arsed spending 10+ hours in the dungeons!
Personally I'm waiting until the inevitable PS5 patch or remaster is out before I go chasing down that plat.

Even at 30fps...easily the best game I’ve ever played.

But yea hopefully they are planning a remake/remaster in the same vein as DS...would be insane!

Probably a bit soon for a full fat remake. I'd settle for a 4K+60FPS.

With the Rachet and Clank remaster I see it was demonstrated that framerate unlocks can be done without a complete SDK migration which would bode well for that 60FPS. On the other hand a resolution change requires them to shift the codebase to the PS5 SDK, which is not a major task but certainly more work than a recompile.

I just ordered Returnal. The game looks fantastic. The previews from all the reviewers seem extremely positive. I just hope the story holds up as the gameplay looks amazing. I think Sony has another banger on their hands.

PS5 exclusive Returnal is weird and brilliant – and Sony needs more like it

Returnal is weird. Brilliant, but undoubtedly bizarre. While the PS5 exclusive is a masterclass in blending the ever-changing levels and permadeath of roguelikes into a game that otherwise looks like a blockbuster third-person shooter, it’s not the kind of game you typically expect on this scale from Sony.

Returnal features a lot of the things we expect from modern first-party PlayStation games: stunning visuals, a strong narrative element and a focus on single-player. But there’s no getting around the idea that it’s very different from the PS4 exclusive action-adventures we saw explode in popularity last generation. It's slightly surprising that Sony is putting something this unashamedly hardcore at the center of its early PS5 exclusive releases.

But, given this week's news that Sony has signed an exclusive partnership with a studio composed of former Destiny developers to make a new multiplayer game for PS5 - a genre the publisher tends to avoid - it sounds like this is part of a bigger strategy for PS5. It feels like Sony is branching out with the types of games it's making - and it’s about time.

I'm still playing, I think I've got the final boss left. I always connect to the Cape Town server and I've helped and have helped plenty of people.

Which boss is kicking your ass?
Just finished the spider armor and not playing the tunnel city ** i think , were all the fire enemies are- how do I deal with those , I have the water spell but my weapons hit for crap on those fire things! maybe I am not using the right weapon ? I've finished 1-2 cant do 1-3 coz of some boss I have to defeat , so now I am stuck on 2-2 area

Sounds like you're playing too linearly. Hop out of World 2 and into World 3's first section.

Without spoiling anything refer to the section for the generally accepted route here: https://demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com/Game+Progress+Route

Also if you're looking for a decent starting weapon (especially if putting stats into magic) you can do a mad dash for the Crescent Falchion +1 in 4-1.

Let's hope it's not all just hype
True. This extract from the review sounds too good though:

Returnal lets players step into the boots of space pilot Selene, who crashes her ship, Helios, on an alien planet called Atropos. But Atropos is stuck in a time loop, meaning that each time Selene dies – and she will die frequently – she begins a new life cycle starting at the crash site. Equipped with a high-tech suit, Selene sets out to battle her way across Atropos and break the loop, which will allow her to escape.

But this isn’t a simple case of Selene having to work her way through the same map again and again; instead, with each reset cycle, the world changes. Each biome (of which there are six) is made up of ‘rooms,’ much like dungeons, but when the cycle resets the order of these rooms - and the enemies lurking within - changes.

Yeah, I did 1-1, 1-2, 2-1, 3-1, 4-1 in the beginning.

Also, grind is a thing. You will only get better weapons later, but you can upgrade yourself to hit harder and also your weapons to hit harder.
