PS5

I see people are losing their marbles over this, but I will believe it when I see it.

IF it turns out to be true, I don't even see the big deal...we know from the FTC docs that these games were all in development for PS5 anyway before MS took over and canned them. So in my mind it wouldn't be a port from the ground up but rather just restarting dev on those builds and merging with whatever has been done since. So in the bigger picture, a relatively small amount of dev time for a potential large return on investment.
From a business point of view it would be silly not to release it on PS. You get to sell at full price.

The timed exclusivity and day one releases has always been the attraction for GP.

Since MS would care more about the money than winning the console war, they get to sell subscriptions and full price games.

What would be dumb is if they allow it on PS+. It would go against everything they're pushing, to get GP on as many devices as possible. I think this is what they're really competing against, not PS as a console...

The latest Xbox news comes from a Phil Spencer interview about Xbox Game Pass exclusives. Would Microsoft ever make a game exclusive to Game Pass? Phil says no. Xbox Game Pass games are seen as an option not a requirement, but I think exclusives are still possible, and I will say why.
Because the Xbox leaks made it clear they need to grow the sub service off the Xbox console. Customers who do not own an Xbox Series X or an Xbox Series S need to sign up for Game Pass and having games exclusive to the sub model could help, but it would remove choice for the consumer.
Game Pass is a subscription service offered by Microsoft as part of Xbox network. Launched on June 1, 2017, the service allows users to download and play video games for Xbox video game consoles or Microsoft Windows PCs

And he soooo want GP on all devices

That Said, could care less, have my Xbox for GP and PS5 for Sony games. If games come to PS5 great, if not who give a sht as its on PC anyway.

Thanks, but no thanks.

But seems like MS somehow need to recoup all those tens of billions being splashed. And I have a feeling they have been running GP at quite a loss for quite a while now. I recall that the break even subscription level needed to be 50m, but they haven't released their subscription numbers for 2 years now?

I stand to be corrected on all of this though.

GP was stuck at 25m in Oct 2022 and did not see any growth for that year. I don't think much has changed since then.

Again, IF this is true then I think you are pretty much on the ball. The bean counters at MS have started asking the tough questions and since their hardware sales have cratered everywhere, even in the US, there's simply no alternative than to start pushing their games on the Switch and PlayStation.

I get what you're saying, but this does not echo Spencer's messages on exclusivity in the past, even as recent as the FTC case. He was pretty much all for it. So personally, I think there is likely a change in direction from the powers above him.

Not saying you're wrong, but if you differentiate between platform and service, his messages about exclusivity make more sense.

It's been no secret from the start that he wants GP on everything. So when he speaks exclusivity, it makes more sense from a GP exclusivity POV, not console exclusivity...

They don't really have much choice re the console thingy. I personally think they have made some questionable decisions in their marketing and strategy, and gambled on GP maintaining momentum - which it doesn't seem to have.

My guess is they announce HFR at the Nintendo direct with a business update afterwards. They probably expected everyone to be surprised but people started talking beforehand and thus he had to say something now.
I wonder if if MS were caught between a rock and a hard place. The almost 70 billion dollar acquisition of Activision was delayed by what, almost 2 years?

So when they did their calculations in advance for the price paid, they probably factored in a really significant growth in GP subscriptions (on top of a growth they had already erroneously assumed?).

So 2 years of what appears to be minimal growth in GP subscriptions will have sunk their revenue and profit projections deeper than the Titanic.

Don't get me wrong, MS will never sink, but I do think they are "hurting" in terms of cash flows.

As @prod said - it seems the "bean-counters are asking tough questions".

PS5 update: DualSense speakers and built-in mic get major upgrades in latest PS5 beta

Selected users who are a part of the PS5 beta will get access to a new PS5 update today, which includes a welcome DualSense audio upgrade.

After the PlayStation State of Play event last week, including Death Stranding 2 being announced, we're now seeing some brand new features roll out for PS5 beta users in a new PS5 update, making it a pretty busy week for Sony. Selected users who've registered for the PS5 beta will now have access to brand-new features on their PS5 consoles, including enhanced DualSense audio and interactive Share Screens.

PS5 update for PS5 beta users – what's included

DualSense wireless controller built-in mic and speaker audio enhancements

  • Controller speaker enhancements. The controller speakers can now produce higher volume sound, allowing you to hear in-game sounds and voice chat audio more clearly.
  • Improved noise cancellation. The mic input quality on these controllers has been improved, courtesy of a new AI machine learning model. Background noise from button presses and game audio are suppressed, resulting in a better voice chat experience. Install the system software beta and update the controller device software to enjoy enhanced clarity of your voice chat audio when using the controller mic.

With this update, you may feel that the sounds coming from your controller speaker may sound louder. You can adjust the controller speaker volume from the control center.

Share screen interactions

Players watching Share Screen in full-screen mode can now use pointers and emoji reactions to interact with the host’s gameplay.

Viewers can move a pointer around, send a ping, or draw a line on the shared screen, allowing them to highlight certain objects or areas to guide the host player more accurately.
  • Viewers can send emoji-based reactions to the host’s screen to visually encourage and celebrate gameplay actions.
  • Note: this feature is available by default but can be turned off by the host in the Share Screen settings. Both the host and the viewer must be participating in the beta to use this feature during the beta period.
Adjust brightness of PS5 power indicator

You can now adjust the brightness of your PS5 console’s power indicator.
  • Go to [Settings] > [System] > [Beep and Light], and then select [Brightness].

Long over due for the DS5. Hopefully the impact on battery is minimal. Keen to use the feature for the casual mp titles so I can jam without earphones.

In other news I completed GoW Valhalla yesterday which means I’m back to 100% of all god of war titles

In my opinion it can only be a good thing if Starfield and Indiana Jones etc go to all consoles. On XBox you can then play it at launch on Game Pass and those on PS5 can buy the game and still play it. So everyone can play the games and both Sony and MS make money. Win-Win for everyone.

It makes sense for Starfield. No-one is buying an Xbox to play that.
It might make sense to keep actual good games exclusive though.

Major Xbox influencers pull support over multiplatform rumours

Several notable Xbox influencers have publicly withdrawn their support for the brand, following media reports claiming that first-party Xbox games could soon start appearing on PlayStation.

Although not yet officially confirmed, the reports have led to a major backlash within the Xbox community, including from notable Xbox influencers with large followings, who are unhappy that games previously marketed as Xbox exclusives could be made available on other console platforms.

Notably, Xbox influencer Klobrille took to the ResetEra forum to confirm that they were taking steps to wind down their account, following the reports.

Klobrille is one of the most well-known personalities in the Xbox community, with over 158,000 followers on X, including Microsoft’s gaming boss Phil Spencer, Xbox president Sarah Bond, and virtually its entire marketing and PR leadership team.

The account is known for creating faux Xbox marketing images, which are regularly shared by Xbox’s bosses.

On Monday, Klobrille said the supposed change in strategy from Microsoft had made them reconsider their support for the Xbox brand.

“The baseline for being Klobrille always was the trust and credibility of the brand I support and my excitement for the path ahead,” they wrote. “All of these three are at an all-time low right now.

“I’ve made the decision, depending on what’s next or its scale, to take significant steps back and reduce the Klobrille persona, or eventually even retire it.”

‘Timdog’, another notable Xbox influencer with 82,000 followers – including Spencer, Xbox’s marketing leads and the official Xbox account – made a more dramatic declaration on Monday, streaming a 7-hour Spaces audio discussion on X under the headline “I’m not an Xbox fanboy anymore”.

“It’s so easy to see Xbox is killing its hardware and putting a stake in the heart of it by doing this,” he said. “And there’s no going back… it’s dead.”

He later tweeted: “Xbox could have killed Game Pass, say buy our exclusives and focus on our hardware and that’s 100 percent the better idea [than to] SAY LETS KILL EXCLUSIVES AND put Halo on PS5. The outrage would be half of this and guess what you might be back to having a healthy business.”

People losing their schit, jeez!

When Sony decided to put their exclusives on PC fan bois went bat schit crazy. Why? If Sony decides one day to follow MS, I'd be stoked.

PC is different, it's not a direct competitor. If Sony had to put their exclusives on Xbox, you'd see the real reaction...
