PS5

PS5 Pro coming lads. My wallet is screaming, have Astro Bot and the limited edition controller on the way which I bought on Friday, plus I just booked a bunch of flights for my Europe trip next month.

Seems we are in for the same dead best nerd presentation as with the PS4 Pro.

Will be interesting to see what the Pro’s USP will be.

The PS4 Pro offered a real world bump - 4K.

I guess its obvious that it will just be “more RT” and higher minimum resolutions.

I'll probably still buy one :X3:

The $499 PS5 is R13999 here and the $550 PSVR2 was R15500 so that's about R28.05-R28.18 to the dollar.

So a $599 Pro would be R16879, maybe rounded to R16999.

Rough either way. My old phat PS5 Digital is probably only worth R7k, so it's a solid R10k to upgrade. It better wow me tomorrow.

PS5 will become to the Pro what the Series S is to the Series X.

I'm guessing there'll have to be some kind of feature parity, with the lesser console holding back the Pro.

I probably won't be getting it. Got both the One X and PS4 Pro last gen and felt that I wasted money, because I didn't get anything new out of the investment. Still had to wait for next gen to truly get games that One/PS4 couldn't play...

This gen has been a letdown. If you look back at the PS4/PS3 gen, they had tons of great games 4 years in.
Where is most of Sony's 1ST party studios at.? Mostly cross gen stuff. Most games look like they could easily be on PS4.
With PS5 PRO coming out, that puts PS6 lunch in 2027.

After PS4 Pro there was still 4 years till PS5. With COVID, the PS5 Pro being a year later in comparison to the PS4 Pro and Microsoft stating in their court documents that they expect the next generation of consoles in 2028, analysts think we'll only get the PS6 in 2028 but it could change if PS5 sales don't pick up.

I also think people misremember how much stuff there was when the PS4 launched.

Some hits of the first 4 years of PS4 :
Infamous Second Son, The Order 1886, Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, Horizon Zero Dawn and Gran Turismo Sport.

The first 4 years of PS5 :
Spider Man Miles Morales, Returnal, R&C Rift Apart, Horizon Forbidden West, Gran Turismo 7, GOW Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and Astro Bot. Only difference is 7/10 were PS5 exclusive instead of all of them.

Most of the action of the PS4 era was in the last 3 years - God of War (2018), Spider-Man(2018), Days Gone (2019), Death Stranding (2019), Ghost of Tsushima (2020) and The Last of Us 2 (2020).

In the pipeline for the next 4 years we have GTA 6, Death Stranding 2, Marvel Wolverine, Ghost of Tsushima 2, Naughty Dog New IP, Santa Monica New IP, Bend Studios New IP, Bluepoint Original Project, Horizon 3, Housemarque New IP and Bungie's Marathon (ok this one is probably going to flop lol) which is quite a lineup till the PS6. The best is yet to come.

True, and to add to that, you couldn't exactly play PS3 games on a PS4, Sony had to make sure those first party titles were being pushed out. The console war was at a high point as well.

Any suggestions for a replacement PS5 remote? I'm tired of trying to fix the stick drift and you can only disassemble and assemble a remote so many times.

I'm not willing to replace it with another normal PS5 remote only having to sit with the same issue again next year. Games are mostly shooting type of games.

Have you just opened the controller to clean up the dirt? If so you're not really fixing drift. You can open up the analog modules and clean up the dirt within and replace the rubber bits which are usually the issue. This is mainly from dirt and grime from sweaty hands or food particles.

How competent are you with soldering? If you are then you can get a hall effect trigger that will pretty much eliminate stick drift. Just remember to calibrate your controller when you do. If that doesn't work for you then you can get the pro controller (ironically not shipping with the pro console based on the rumors) but that comes in at 2.5 times the cost of a normal controller so you decide if that extra cost is worth it.

The only thing that would convince me to jump is something that makes PSVR2 better.

Sony bought the studio after the game was release, so there is that :p

Don't see why it matters anyway, these games exist only because of PlayStation's funding and with HellDivers they own the IP. I'm not sure why you mentioned Wukong cause that was not even in the OP.

Also, if that's your rule for 1st party then you realise MS has like 0 games that are FP lol

I am more worried about Sweet baby involvement than the remaster/ports....
What I don't understand is how a studio like Naughty Dog was able to put out four hits in a single generation (Uncharted 1-3 + TLoU), but 4 years into this generation and not even one new game.

Dev timelines in general have become ridiculous, and considering how slowly games are being rolled out, it makes the Pro argument even more nonsensical...
