Pupil sodomised in brutal attack

Kimberley – A group of white Northern Cape high school boys have videoed themselves sodomising a fellow black pupil with a broom stick, according to reports.

City Press reported that the four-minute video shows a group of six boys in their underpants attack a black child at the hostel of an agricultural high school in the Northern Cape.

The boy is seen bound by his hands and feet to a steel frame bed, while the group smear, what appears to be shaving cream, on him.

According to the report, before he is sodomised his head and buttocks is shaved.

The boy is heard screaming and crying as his attackers and other boys in the room laugh and joke.

In the video a handful of black pupils can be seen watching the gruesome act take place.

Northern Cape education spokesperson Sydney Stander told the daily newspaper that the video was shot at the school’s hostel on Sunday.

The young victim is a new pupil at the school, who only enrolled this year.

His grandmother had informed the school of the attack on Wednesday, after he told her what happened.

The young boy is receiving trauma counselling.

That might be true, but given the current political climate and the history of race relations in SA, it is just plain stupid to open oneself to such an accusation in the first place. Were these boys properly educated to be sensitive to the complexity of race relations in SA, they might have avoided this "cheap shot".

It really doesn't help when the newsfeeds which usually pussy foots around the race of suspects (even if it could actually help in arresting said suspect) yet feels it okay to throw it in there when they know it's just going to create racial controversy?
