Hey guys,

I saw an ad and watched a video recently of a quad copter that follows it's owner. I simply cannot remember what the name was.

My need:

  1. I am looking for a quad copter that could be launched, and then it follows me and the other 2 people in party while we are hiking.
  2. Preferably be waterproof.... yeah i know
  3. Take still and moving pictures
  4. Autonomous... i don't want to tell it where to go and which angle to take, it should be random
  5. needs an hour or two's flying time in between charges

Any suggestions?

Buying it once-off is not an issue but i would like this to be a short-term hobby as well, so something i can assemble over time would be great.

UPDATE - 1-2 hours of footage is what i am looking for, i will charge using a mobile solar charger in between flighs

I think there was another, newer one that could dodge trees, but not sure of the name.

That's going to be a bit of a stretch I think. They don't normally have flight time that long.

Maybe look for something with removable batteries and then carry a kitbag full of spares.

Charging time is going to be at least 2 hours.

I considered that, but weight is an issue when hiking, and if i go on a 10 day hike the extra weight will kill me.

Yea, you will have to be selective because you are going to get about 20 minutes video for every 2 to 3 hours charge.

Phantom 3 gives me about 30 minutes flight time per battery. I have a spare so I can get about an hour of filming without having to charge. Charging time with the P3 Pro's charger is about 45 minutes. The P3 advanced's charger takes almost twice as long to charge a battery.

The Phantom 3 can follow you around.

Each frame of the 4K video is 8 megapixels so you can even use screengrabs from the video instead of taking photos as the quality is pretty good. I paid R21,000 including the spare battery.

I like the Altitude capabilities of the Phantom :)

Thanx for the info

It is incredibly stable even high up in mild winds, and easy to learn to it fly proficiently.
