Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Anyone got the mavic yet?

Nope .... been waiting almost 6 weeks now (ordered 17/10). The DJI press release was they will "try" clear orders up to Nov 3 within 7 to 8 weeks. When last I questioned DroneWorld last week, they had only received 4 units  The way things are going, I don't expect it to get any better, just maybe I'm lucky and get mine late December...

I would love to get one of these, any good ones you can recommend that's under R15K! I don't want to spend all my savings on a drone right now.

My bad, just copied from the search page, only 3 left it appears.

Wait 2 months for Mavic and pay close to double the price...

or get Phantom 3 advanced today... at close to half the price. How much is the portability worth?

The mavic also seems frought with all sorts of weird issues as reported by many on the DJI forums.

Perhaps the phantom is still the wiser choice, at this stage.

Or wait for the Phantom 4 and get a 1" sensor and all round obstacle avoidance. Might need to work your credit card a bit though :D

Material from the 3 looks good enough for me as I'm just an amatuer. Just want something to fly and take the odd video (mainly mtb related or some shots of CT). I was keen on the 3 Standard too but apparently it has severe range issues. The Advanced has lightbridge "up to 5km". If I can get 1Km that will be fine.

I don't need to use a credit card but 10k seems like a lot extra for things I might not nec use. Could go on holiday with my new drone for that 10k :D

Yeah it is a first gen so there will be issues. Still an amazing piece of tech though and I do really want one!

Still on the fence... 12k is a lot of cash but the Phantom 3 advanced seems like a good buy. Good camera, good, range etc.

Are those sale prices?

Phantom 3 advanced is 4k or is only the 4 Pro 4k?

I'm not sure if they are Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale prices, just looked for @Dom1n8tr1x when he said he was looking for a drone for around R15k...

I'm sure the 4 4k version was well over R20k last I looked?

From the DroneWorld link of the Phantom 3 advanced:

Q
What’s the difference between the standard, Advanced, and professional

A
The standard has at 2K video camera (2×1080 HD) but only flies a few hundred metres, And cannot accept large cell phone or iPads. The advance, also has a 2k video camera(2×1080 HD) that can fly several kilometres thanks to its built-in light bridge system. The battery takes one hour 15 minutes to charge.
The professional is identical to the advance except it has 4K video camera(4×1080 HD the main advantage of 4K is in postproduction you can zoom in 400% closer to your subject and still have high-definition quality video footage) and charges its battery in just one hour.
