Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Uploaded a quick clip from the DJi Go4 app, just used the auto edit. Pretty nice! This is from a private farm in the Natal Midlands. Did a spot of fly fishing.

Question for you guys, trying to get a spare battery for my drone, syma x5c-1

Came with this one, but looking for better endurance
3,7v 500mah,

Gives me about 5 odd Min flying time,

Who has the Mavic? Thoughts?

I have the P3A and thinking about upgrading. Portability being the main reason so that I can take it on hikes and mtb rides.

It's a great drone! But get the fly more pack. It makes a world of difference

3,7v 500mah,

that JJRC drone i posted up there have a much bigger battery that gives me about 15min flight time... biggest one i've seen... and from what I understand it's a Syma clone so should be compatible right?
It has a 3.7v 1100 mah battery

I had a buyer for my P3A yesterday but cancelled. Apparently it s a fact that the Mavic is useless at anything over 30FPS which is a bit of a deal breaker for me. Its all over YouTube with aliasing issues and even DJI has confirmed the faster speeds are only for FPV/VR headset with lower latency.

That's fine, I'm no video genius. I like flying it and making a video here and there.

Yeah for sure it still has a lot of good use cases but if you are shooting moving objects its not so lekker.

It seems that the Mavic is slowly becoming available in SA. :) The only problem, I spent that money on other things :(

It's the H5P. It's not bad as a toy, but don't expect to do anything serious with it.

They're good to learn the general flying technique... that doesn't change much from one quad to another.
Lol, I saw the logo and read 'Jirre'

What happens at 1080 60fps or 100fps(not sure it supports that fps)?

Moiré / Aliasing

Take a look at a sample.

That is a little kotch but perhaps an extreme example?

I've honestly seen lots of Mavic footage in YouTube vlogs and not noticed it being an overt issue. Case in point is the 70D has a pretty bad moire issue but it's widely and the resulting footage 99% of the time looks awesome.

If you are shooting professionally and having moire won't cut it then it's no good, but that being said no one chooses a Mavic for its professional grade footage, so that is perhaps a moot point.

What is the reason given for the moire, it's often something to do with the type of pixel array on the sensor?

Search on YouTube for "Mavic 1080p 60fps" and you will see what I mean. Or better yet look at the hundreds of posts on the DJI forums about it:

Anything over 30FPS causes it and you don't need to be a pro to make use of higher FPS.

But if you import at 60fps, slow it down to make a slo-mo/timelapse and export to 24 or 30 fps it's really not as noticeable?

Same with mine, got some serious altitude with mine,
Until it ran out of range.....
Just flight time is relatively short.....
Fanie, how big is the battery on yours? As size is an issue with mine....
