Quadcopter/Drone Thread

that JJRC drone i posted up there have a much bigger battery that gives me about 15min flight time... biggest one i've seen... and from what I understand it's a Syma clone so should be compatible right?
It has a 3.7v 1100 mah battery
There you go
Same with mine, got some serious altitude with mine,
Until it ran out of range.....
Just flight time is relatively short.....
Fanie, how big is the battery on yours? As size is an issue with mine....

You got any photos? As my battery bay is really small
And apparently, replacement batteries from other quads might be wired wrong and destroy the board if they connected wrong....

Bought a Phantom 4 yesterday. Took it for its maiden flight today:

Got the fright of my life this weekend.
Got the "motor obstructed" and "loose propeller" warning at the same time when the drone was about 400m away and 30m up over the sea.

Swiftly flew it back waiting for it to fall out of the sky which thankfully didn't happen.

Actually, I tend to get some form of glitch every 2 or 3 flights. Usual culprits are "Compass error" and the camera freezing when taking a photo. In both cases drone requires reboot which is annoying if it is far away.

Drone pilots out there.

Do you ever say anything when you see a fellow pilot clearly breaking the rules? I have had to bite my lip a few times seeing idiots flying right next door to helipads, over people and houses or flying at silly and illegal altitudes?

I don't want to be "that guy" but people don't seem to give a F and probably haven't even read the regulations. It's only a matter of time before something ugly happens and drones = banned.

Just about every 2nd picture of Capetown on instagram braeks the CAA rules.

If anything just call the police if it's serious like a helipad or busy flight paths or if you are up for it then go speak to them. Some will be clueless others will be doing it knowingly and in that case you can give them a good pk on the spot in good conscience :D

It's a global phenomenon though, for instance someone obviously had a little talk with Casey neistat as he doesn't fly his drone much anymore, he did acknowledge he was doing it illegally which was undeniably the case because flying drones almost anywhere in New York is illegal, something he used to show almost every day in his vlogs.

The DJI spark looks awesome. Wonder what it'll cost when it is eventually available here?

With todays ZAR rate of R12.89 to the USD, you can expect about R9600.

The Mavic Pro Flymore is R25K in SA but costs $1299, we pay at least about 45% more. Take the expected $499 (* Rate exchange) Round off to R6500 add 45%... (Drone World .co.za explained that there is a high import tariff on camera / video recording goods (30%?), then you still need to add Vat 14%)

Last I checked there was no duties on camera equipment only vat?
