Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Hi All

would appreciate a recommendation on an entry level drone.

Perhaps keep a record on the 1st post?

TIA
Buy a budgie, stick a spycam on, and then just administer electro shock remotely to get it to fly in the correct direction.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I think it'd help if you gave a budget for people to recommend against, if that makes sense.

I think any of the DJI Mini range of drones is good for entry and even mid-level. They are pretty easy to learn and forgiving in the air. Prices are not cheap, but if you are serious about flying these are probably the best option.
Also, if your budget allows, see if you can spring for the flymore combo packs. The extra batteries and charger is really worth it.

Do you have to go for a license for this stuff, specially for these entry level ones?

Not unless you want to use the footage for commercial purposes. If you're just flying recreationally you're good to go. There are a bunch of (onerous) regulations you need to adhere to.

Got a new Mini 3 Pro with the RC controller and I love it. Might be my new favourite drone.

Okay, but are these things actually enforced in this country?

I've heard of enforcement, mostly in the Western Cape, in particular Capetown. Usually it's some disgruntled "licensed" operator ratting out an unlicensed one.

Picked up a Mavic Air 2nd hand a couple of days ago.

Watching 'how-to' vids at the moment.

Fun (bloody noisy though)
Can't be noisier than my current first gen Air?

Better get your drone while you can .. DJI is Chinese-based company .. Beijing explained it had announced the measures in order to protect "national security and interests”. The export restrictions will take effect on September 1.

Bought a cheap drone with camera and it is not the easiest to fly. Went to an open field and crashed a few times (luckily not into property). Also flew it at home and crashed into walls etc.

I have heard on this forum that the DJIs are a completely different experience to flying the cheap ones.

Are the DJI's simpler to fly?
