Quadcopter/Drone Thread

24fps is considered cinematic, with the 180 deg rule that means 1/48th sec (1/50th practically) is optimal. On sunny days the shutter speed could be forced to shutter speeds much quicker than that. Hence ND filters.
Thanks, that makes sense now!

It is also to stop you from seeing the rotors while flying forward, on bright days with fast shutter speeds.

Digital REV guys review, says the image sensor is smaller and they show the difference in image quality. In my opinion its maybe 80% of the image quality.

Please don't be mislead with the FPV option with the DJI Mavic. I have been told the latency would be high and flying with high latency means your reaction time will be off but i will reserver final jugment once i get my heads on it :-D

I do like the Mavic and if I get another chance to replace my DJI 3 STD drone it will possibly be the Mavic.

Awesome 3 part video serious gives you tips on how to improve your videos.
Check this guys video out on Post production when filming with Drones! His skill level is off the charts :D

From the videos I've seen of the footage the Mavic produces it's no Phantom replacement, image is softer and looks like it has less dynamic range, I would imagine the Gopro Karma with a Hero5 black will produce a better image.

I like them both but I'm thinking on getting the Karma better image quality, parts are easier to replace, don't need a second remote to control the gimbal ! This can be done with a smart phone and you get a system @ the same price as the Mavic.

Having said that I'm still waiting for more videos to come out on the Mavic before I make my decision.

The range on that Mavic though. Karma doesn't even come close.
How do they compare?

I think for most people image quality trumps the range. The Mavic quality just doesn't cut it, especially not for a professional or serious amateur. Casey neistats Phantom 4 footage blends almost seamlessly with his Canon D80 footage, Mavic footage noticeably not the case. Then again the Karma may have limitations that would mean the Phantom 4 would still be the preferable choice.

Ya that one does suck, but still 1Km is still pretty far and for video with such a wide angle lens should be OK.

If I wanted to get the better drone (more sensors ect.) I would get the Mavic, but for video purposes @ the moment I'm leaning towards the Karma.

It's the same sensor size as the Phantom 4.

Didn't seem to hinder his enthusiasm. I'm sure the Mavic will be used more than his Phantom in the future.

Karma=1Km Mavic=7km
Wtf, how can it have 7km range, is that fly time or radio range, ie can fly 7km away from the operator?

7km is like military reconnaissance grade if it's distance from the operator.

Did they use a lucky packet lens?

Latest episode shows a side by side, Mavic dismal in comparison to the Phantom. Compared some Gopro session footage, the Karma is going to smash the Mavic in the image quality dept.

Will check it out. I see that some users on Reddit are saying that the low resolution is due to user error.

The sample size is small at the moment so it'll be interesting to see.

Oh, just saw this:

Mavic Drone Update; apparently the focus works differently on the Mavic. I played with it and I was able to get much much sharper images.

Looks like it can fly and transmit video 7km away from operator. Unless they mean a radius of 7km and the operator is standing in the middle I'm not to sure .

anyway this is from DJI's website

Fly further

Inside the Mavic’s pocket-sized remote controller is DJI’s brand new OcuSync transmission technology, with a range of 4.3mi (7km*) and Full HD 1080p video streaming.
