Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Quantum Theory I am at work and can't access youtube via our proxy settings. Is that your channel?

I don't even have a drone yet, but I will probably have a Mavic before the end of the year.

The video came up in my YouTube recommendations. Explains and shows before/after of tap to focus feature on Mavic.

Any Steadidrone owners here? They make some awesome machines. That Vader is purdy.

Oh, just saw this:

Mavic Drone Update; apparently the focus works differently on the Mavic. I played with it and I was able to get much much sharper images.
That's hopeful, was very surprised they'd release a 4k drone with such a soft image, didn't make sense.

Wechat and IC have a promo on Phantom 3 standard for 6.7k...

How does that compare to the 4.
That seems like an amazing price, how much do they normally sell for?
About double that price. I read that it's got limited range as its WiFi only though which put me off.

Where can you get a 4 for double that price?

Think he means the P3 is normally double the WeChat special price, not that P4 is double that price.

I would have gotten one of these if the Mavic weren't releasing soon.

So the controller to drone is wifi link vs the more expensive ones which use radio technology, more stable better range?

If you read his post properly you will see that he was referring to the 3 standard.

Correct but it must be some kind of boosted wifi as it can easy do 500m up to 1km. My home wifi can barely reach the toilet.

I am actually seriously thinking of going for it.
All reviews say it is an absolute bargain at normal price (13k) so to get it for R6.7k it seems like a no brainer.

All reviews seem to suggest brilliant camera quality, 500m easy to 1km range, easy to fly etc. It flies to start point if it get disconnected. Smartphone app seems very good.

I can live with that range.

Edit: It seems SA law says you cant fly the drone more than 500m away from you anyway (unless you have the license)

What are the salient points in terms of drone laws in Sa?
Can they be flown above residential properties?
Over private property(that's not your own property)?

What are the main benefits of extreme range, do people really fly drones 5km away from the operator well out of sight, isn't that asking for trouble?
