Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Most consumers I think will only go for Mavic. Price and portability.

For me I think this is going to turn into a unhealthy hobby .

DJI - take my money

Mavic is the perfect hiking drone. And definitely on my Christmas list. Just to persuade the bank manager

Order it this Christmas, you might get it next Christmas... :D they are about 2 months behind schedule...

Which is fine with me. With all new production and ramping up of production brings issues. I'll wait until all the major glitches are resolved.

If I'm lucky, I might get mine this year ... plan is to record footage while out on rides with my BMW club... I think Sani Pass will look spectacular.

Gees, that P4P is a game changer IMHO.

It's now tossing up the importance of portability vs image quality and trading one for the other.

In my books, the superior camera (by a county mile) and image quality that the P4P will yield over the MP, trumps portability.

I wonder what the retail price will be in SA.

Agreed

Well priced same as P4 on release which was $1500. Here in beginning was r28k and now r23k. So guess with rand fluctuations at moment I'd say r28k to be safe for P4P. Definitely worth it. 4k 60fps and 20mp. Gonna be so much better .

Definitely considering selling my P4 for the P4P. Or maybe even first gen inspire. Prices should drop when P4P and inspire 2 land by us.

If it lands at R28k It will be very tempting to pull the trigger.

So you're paying R7 000 just for the screen? Seems if you already have a smartphone it might be more worth it to just use your phone and use the savings on an extra battery or 2?

Your video has limited range on your phone. My brother flies his DJI through his phone, but his phone can not pick up the feed more than 30 or 40 meters away.

There is a higher import duty on drones with cameras. If you consider the Mavic Pro Combo is $1299 (roughly R19000), and in S.A they sell for R25000, then you will pay about 30% more than the US listed price...

That's a bit strange, I fly further than that and have never lost phone video signal.

Will the screen that comes attached to the remote with the Pro+ be able to pick up the feed from further away?

Phone plugged into the controller Phantom 3 Professional. AFIAK you can't (shouldn't) use your wifi on the phone while flying with controller.

Not sure about the Phantom, but with the mavic you can fly with the phone without the controller using wifi. This is however extremely limited in range. The controllers use a much stronger signal and can send HD signal feed back to the connected phone from over 3km away.

Yup, will come in handy for those quick shots or if you know you're not going far. Wish Orms would get their stock already :(

7km on the Mavic and P4P...
