Quadcopter/Drone Thread

Not quite the Air replacement, but quite a bit smaller and similarly specced.
Interesting - hope they sorted out all the little niggles like the USB ports and prop noise that everyone seems to go on about.

Smaller also sounds interesting - my Air lives in my camera bag.

Prop noise is definitely sorted out. So much quieter than the Air! Still no USB-C. Why? it's 2019 FFS...

The props are fixed, which is my only major concern... Props are the first thing to break when you crash. I have raised this concern with them, and whether it makes the final design is yet to be seen.

Similar to the Air where the drone has USB-C but the controller requires a very fiddly almost square micro usb?

Like the Spark?

Micro-USB in this case. No USB-C to be seen anywhere.

Nope. They're screwed into the motor. i.e you need a fine philips screwdriver to remove them.

I don't understand how they are not hot-swappable. Again, these are pre-production units, so this may change.

Will post the details once the drone launches. :)

Drone pilots will appreciate this. (I don't read The Sun, but it's the only link I could quickly find):

Can someone in the know explain the following to me please;

I live in an area that falls with 10km of a small airport. Although i'm at the outskirts of the 10KM radius, its still a no-fly zone.

What does the law define as No-Fly? Can I take off my drone up to 10m if i'm testing blades and flight? Can I fly at 15m high if there's higher objects around me than 15m? (assuming that any aircraft flying that low would hit the objects/buildings before my drone).

Can I for example use my drone to check my roof tiles which are 4m up? I'm trying to understand what "no-fly" is short of never actually pressing "take-off".

No fly means no fly.

You can still fly indoors presumably.

Ok I wanted a slightly more insightful answer? Like I’m other countries No Fly means not above 50m
If an aircraft is below that 9km from the airport they have much bigger problems....

In the absence of any exclusions to the no flying in the no fly zones one has to assume they don't want you to fly within 10km of an airport at any height.

Yes, SA regs are, imo, unnecessarily harsh compared to many/most other countries.

It's up to you if you intend to adhere to the local regs. DJI will often take that choice out of your hands, if you happen to have one of their drones, but they are unaware of SA's 10km regulation

Nice. Will look into it. Pity you don't have like a sound meter to test the dbs
According to people who have used meters the dbs are similar - its the pitch change that makes the difference.
