well they are so ? The whole world is in financial dwang especially Europe but they waste money on frivolous cr@p when the money could be better spent on something else.

I don't know how many other countries can claim to have a figurehead with the same universal respect and admiration of Elizabeth Royal. 60 years is quite incredible - she's outlasted every other leader in my lifetime, and in my parents'. She's engaged, reputedly brilliant, and fully committed to her role - whether you agree with a monarchy in principle, you have to have some admiration for her.
Additionally, the Royal family is a net income generator for the UK through tourism and other means. Processions like this one are beneficial to British business - kind of like the Olympics.

Soccer yes - but I can hardly wait for days of endless swimming heats, dressage and show jumping, synchronised swimming, water polo and triple-jump.

of course they not going to moan they got a paid holiday, masses don't moan when it is a holiday but the "govermint" or the royals themselves who should say " Hang on we can't afford this at the moment" if it was our govermint that did this yesterday we would all be bitching this morning about the waste of money.

The Jubilee does earn money - way in excess of its cost. In that regard I wouldn't call it a waste.
The 2010 debacle we had here earned money for Septic Bladder and that's pretty much it. We paid and got nothing in return. Definitely a waste.
