Hi

I hope you clever guys can assist me.

My daughter is renting a place in CT. I am in Jhb.

She lives in a little garden flat She requested the landlord (who lives in the main house) to "install" dstv for her. He had DSTV in his house. Now neither of us are very technical haha - but he added R3700 for DSTV installation onto her account. Is that at all possible?

She reckons, she does not have a decoder. So i assume that it must be some "extra view" feature, or I am not sure of the term. She can view whatever she wants, and she says it does not has any effect on what is being watched in the house.... Could that installation price be correct?

She does have her own remote - and according to her she points the remote to a "little eye" when changing channels.

Please advise?

My question is - is it possible for the installation to be that price? Its done now, so he wants her to pay that?

Well he asked if he should go ahead - and stupid me and her assuming its a normal DSTV installation. My thing is I'm not sure what we are paying for - its not like she can take it when she leaves? She is prepared to pay the subscription though every month, but What the Heck is the 3700 for

Very possible that a second decoder was installed in the main house with an eye leading to the cottage.
since the dish is located at the main house, that would be the easier option.

R3700 would still be excessive though unless it's an explorer.

I am getting extraview installed at home and the costs are as follows:
Decoder: R600 (Its an old model I bought 2 years ago and had lying at home)
Dual LNB kit: R450
Installation: R450
Having a Dstv Explorer installed would push this price up to over R3000 easily.

Maybe the landlord had an old decoder and had an explorer installed for himself and the old decoder set up with extraview for your daughter :p

Ok.. how will we know lol... or how will she know whether it is an explorer or not

Another questions - and I do realise she has to pay the monthly fee, but is it possible that he could run her dstv and his with only paying one subscription?

She can send you a pic of whatever was installed, then you post it here?

She can only see the "little eye' and she has a remote. And obviously the tv - nothing else

Ok I gave her a call quickly

No decoder, and there is only one dish. There is one channel on the tv that shows her what they are watching, but she can watch anything she wants to.

Sorry for the lack of technical terms - lol I just don't want her to pay that much if this guy is taking a chance. I will have to ask him for the installation invoice then?

Is she paying the whole monthly fee?

It seems to me that the guy has just put another decoder in his house and got extra view setup (on his original installation) which would mean he only pays an extra R85.00 a month on top of what he was already currently paying.

She is paying the full subscription - in fact he is probably charging more, we are paying R850 per month for DSTV.

He installed this in May, and said the installation fee of R3700 is due with this month's rent.
