Question - Please assist

Thank you guys :) I thought so, but thought I'll just make sure before i make an idiot out of myself

I have an "eye " . It cost me R190.00. He is stealing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can i just ask, what did installation of the eye cost you? Is it 190 per month? or was it once off?

It all depends on how it was done. If it was a good installation, with the wires being put inside the walls, then it could easily cost that.

Sorry last question I saw on DSTV's web site their premium package is R759 is that correct? Also, is this the most expensive one... .she is paying R850

Ok - lol just leads to another question then. Would it not have been cheaper then just to do a separate buy decoder from whoever + installing it for like 899 or something? He obviously didn't do it, but that was the request initially.

Landlord would probably charge the xtraview sub too unless they had pvr in which case its included.
There is no way I would pay that amount for dstv though!

I'm afraid he is well and truly ripping off your daughter firstly the R3700.00 is WAY too high & secondly R850.00 per month when she does not have the decoder set up in her cottage is a total rip off, Can she record shows & does she have catch up? Does the landlord have DSTV? If so then the Xtraview price per month is R85 so effectively she is paying the whole amount for herself plus the landlord as well

Thank you everyone - I emailed him requesting the invoice to see what it is for. No reply yet - and no she doesn't have catch up. He has DSTV.

Thanks

If she's going to pay that amount then she should take the extra decoder with her when she leaves.

Also, the subscription cost should be split. She shouldn't be paying the entire amount.

It depends on how it is done. If it is a good installation with the wires being embedded in the walls, it can easily cost several thousand rand. If it is a cheap job and the wires are run along the walls, then it would be much cheaper

That was what I told her. When she moves she must take every little thing with her - haha then she said she only has the eye and remote nothing else

the eye is just a little unit that the cable carrying the TV signal plugs into and then that gets plugged into the back of the TV. Its only job is to carry the remote signal back to the device (decoder in this case) which is not in the same room to tell it to do what you want it to do.

The guys is charging you for the full DSTV Premium package (R759.00 per month) which is probably the package he is using for himself with his decoder and then also charging you the extra view package (R 85.00 per month) which is the extra cost that DSTV charge to allow another decoder to be used on an original primary account to give you another viewing option (which is what he has probably done for your daughters unit.)

if the installation was put into the walls as a fixed installation then the cost should be for the owner, not the person renting the unit.

Me again- I just now understand that the cottage is attached to the house and she says the wires went through the roof from their setup to hers? Something like that?

yeah its not a fixed installation but once you have the costs of what the guy has charged for, you will be able to get a proper breakdown. The cost of the installation could include putting a new bigger dish in and recabling as well as a new decoder for your daughter to use. Once you see the invoice you can see if it is legitimate or not.

tell him she would like to pay dstv herself. As she want to register on dstv website to watch via her phone
