questionns about oil,

Oil would be thin in anycase after you've broken all the chains in the oil with heat and friction for 15000km. The new oil should be thicker

but is it really necessary in some cars cases? I mean for an expensive car like a merc or a BM does one have to do this?
what about racing cars? is this a good idea?

I have no experience with racing cars. I know a lot of plonks on our roads will be surprised by this but contrary to popular belief Merc's & BM's aren't racing cars! Their needs would be the same as any other brand.

Try and go for a full synthetic I suppose? I think most of the oil we can buy here is something like 10W-40 or 0W-40 or something like that.

You get specific oils with a thicker viscosity for engines with high mileage. Get a 15W40 or 20W40.

If your oil is thin then you've left it too long between changes.

When draining, have the oil at operating temperature, makes it thinner than when it is cold.
Just don't get it on yourself.

Why is thicker better for high mileage cars? The thicker the oil, the harder it is to travel around and into the engine not so?

It's not.
Stick to the manufacturers recommendation.

Agree thicker is not better. Fuel consumption is also affected when deviating from the manufacturer's recommendation.

good idea to use? I mean is mine considered "high mileage"
or better to use what I used last time?

5W20 is this correct?

I see you only on 100k odd, stick with normal oil then. 5w30 will be fine.

100k is not high mileage. She's a baby my friend.

a very naughty baby with electrical issues.....
and Im still not sure if mine is affected by the picanto crankshft pulley bolt issue.... apparently it affects all cars with G4HG engines

so you suggest 5W30? but the website kia.uk says 5W20, is that wrong?

If your engine did not seize then Shell is fine.

its going for the moment, want to sell it ASAP, just need the job situation to stabilize....
am happy to have it as unreliable as it sometimes is.....

at least I not paying it off....
but it needs a bit of TLC , need to get it serviced, as last service was at 105000 and its now done its 10K

so Ill pop by my favorite mechanic to change plugs and filters, but I wanted to know about oil,
is there a brand I should use, last time I used shell, but not sure if its right for this car,
and if I buy those small cans and add up oil, will that be bad?
