R200 notes at ATMs

They cannot refuse it is real money.

You need to grab the shop owner by the collars and head butt him from across the counter.

I managed to through in R200 diesel. The attendant didn't want to take the R200 note until I told him I don't have any other money on me.

When people refuse a R200 note, you should give them a quick lesson in identifying all the security features of the note and how to tell if it is fake or not.
You can find that info on the Reserve Bank Website.

Yes, they can't legally refuse it. My aunt had the problem in the local OK store. We made a fuss and the owner later came and apologised.

Don't you just hate it when you get R200 notes at an ATM and no shops in the vacinity wants to accept them. I can't even use them at some garages.

I usually get the R200 notes at Standard Bank ATMs. I never get R200 notes at FNB ATMs.

draw R150? :D

a while ago shops did not accept R200notes. Then they took them again & I have recently seen they have an issue accepting them again :(

Yep, not allowed to refuse to accept it. They can refuse to accept the old R200 notes, though, as those are no longer legal tender (I think).

I've got about R100 in 5c that I want to spend one day

brilliant :) ... I should keep a few boxes of 5c coins in my car and used it to pay for fines when stopped at a roadblock :D

I don't know about R200's, but it seems the past few weeks I can't seem to get a receipt from an ATM. They are quite poorly maintained now. ABSA and Standard.

I'm pretty sure you can legally refuse to do business with anyone...
But if you already owe them the money it's too late for them to refuse.

i believe in the law of offer and acceptance, at the stage they reject the sale because of the payment method means that the sale is valid. and because the R200 note is legal tender, they have no legal right to fall back on.

Indeed they are... I complained about it today on Hellopeter.com
