R240 Android tablet unveiled

Cheap Android tablet developed by India for educational needs will be sold in South Africa for R4000 like netbooks developed for "educational" needs
Fixed it for you

This would be great for my home automation project one of these built into the wall or as bed-side devices in every room.... I'm drooling

Yip, we are third world.... rainbow colors or not....

While we can't stop frating over past wrongs whilst the "leaders" use and abuse, the other third worlds are moving upwards.

Strange how the single race countries, albeit being third world, is advancing at a much greater pace than us ...

I call shena****ns. There's no way they're actually releasing this at that price, it's all just for the press.

I'll just leave this here.

While the press pays attention to the Big Announcement, hardly any media outlets notices later when nothing ever comes of it. Why? Because a headline with "$35 tablet" in it brings traffic, eyeballs and readers, whereas a headline with "media duped again" brings only shame. So they go for the glory, but omit the shame.

For example: In February of last year, the Indian government announced a $10 to $20 laptop called the "Shaksat. Like the $35 tablet, the Shaksat had 2GB of RAM, but details on other components were impossible to come by.

It was to be rolled out in 6 months, and was to be used by millions of students across India, transforming the Indian educational system and economy. So where is the Shaksat?

Hopefully something comes of this and some bright young spark can get them to SA for like R350

I would be willing to pay double that...could think of a million uses for them...including using it as midi slider volume controls connected via wifi...already have an app on my Android device that can do it, but the bigger screens would be nice, perfect for a studio environment:-) So let's hope something comes of this...

Even at R600 it should be a nice bargain.

Can double as a photoframe, but handle your downloads in the background, heck - hook up a webcam and leave it near the front door and you've got a camera to see who's at the front door as well.

There are android devices on BoB for about R700 that seem pretty much like what india is proposing... I imagine in china they are probably <R200.
