My old high school, in Milnerton, has had a lot of bad publicity in the local rags recently about violence and drug usage at the school. The same appears to be happening to Table View HS, if you believe the local
rags they drop in your post box weekly. When I attended HS we never
had issues like this, no-one in my year did drugs, the worst case of violence
was when a Matric's younger Std6 brother had his head dunked by his
buddies in a toilet and corporal punishment was just being phased out.
Don't recall ever any serious BS happening in our school. There was
one case of attempted rape (schoolboy gave booze to a girl and then
tried to assault her indecently) in a younger year but everyone knew about it and everyone was shocked by it,
I believe the asailant had some serious threats to his health from the other students.

Assault is against the law, no matter what you prefer to call it, spanking, beating, klapping... it all boils down to one thing, physically injuring someone against their will.

Bullsh1t. Why did they get the spanking in the first place? Something was done against a parent's will!

I'm pretty sure some people should be fined R300 for just breeding...

Anyone going against rules shouldn't have "human rights", as they took the right to make and enforce rules away from the rule maker.

The FF Plus welcomed the news that the controversial section 139 of the Children’s Amendment Bill which will be accepted in Parliament later this week, has been separated from the remainder of the Bill.

The news that the controversial section which would have scrapped the common-law right of parents to discipline their children, will first be held back, was made known this morning during a meeting of the Portfolio Committee on Social Development in the National Assembly.

The FF Plus’ spokesperson on Youth Affairs, Mr. Willie Spies, said in his reaction that the news is a victory for minority parties who were vehemently opposed to the proposed measure. The committee had taken its decision following a proposal from the ACDP’s Ms. Cheryl Dudley.

It also became known last week that the ANC caucus was seriously divided about the proposed measure. If the law had been accepted as it stood, any parent who gives his/her child corporal punishment would be found guilty of a misdemeanour because the common law defence of “reasonable discipline” would no longer exist. According to an earlier submission of the Department of Justice at the portfolio committee, a typical fine would be R300 per incident.

Spies said the government is looking for trouble if it plans on criminalising millions of right-thinking parents while the state fails its obligation to safeguard the community from criminals.

The controversial section will most probably be submitted again next year, but in the short term, Christians, religious groups and minority parties who had been opposed to the section, have reason to celebrate an interim success in the legislative process.
