You don't need statistics. I matriculated relatively recently (years after corporal punishment died an undeserved death), and I resigned from being a prefect, because people actually walk up to teachers, src members and prefects and will literally shout in their faces "You can't hit me, how are you going to stop me?". (This was said to me once, I then hit him, he stopped his s***, and I promptly resigned.)

I remember once I ran away from my dad down the street :o and he came after me in his car. I thought I was in so much **** and the first thing I said was "please don't hit me". The neighbours faces was a classic. Thankfully I was only grounded :D
 
Personally don't agree with the government telling parents how to raise their kids.

But also don't agree with corporal punishment.

The reason kids misbehave today has nothing today with smacking not being allowed imho. It all has to with absent parents. Parents being too busy with their careers to show their kids that they care or to teach them what they need to be taught. If you aren't going to have the time to be there for them just don't have them.

I got clouted as a kid, and I generally frikkin deserved it. This is saying that 'The education department' is now going to be responsible for teaching parents how to discipline their kids. Mmm, good idea, never mind that the next story is about a kid chasing another kid through school with a knife drawn...

I disagree with beating your kids to a pulp, but a firm hand now and then when the kid deserves it is not 'degrading' or 'humiliating' to a kid, imho. What do you folk think?

Nonsense of course because good teachers never needed corporal punishment to control their classes and command respect. They didn't even need to threaten corporal punishment. The same applied to prefects. Of course prefects were never and should never be legally allowed to administer corporal punishment. They did of course, but I would assist and fully support any child of mine to take steps to mete out punishment to any prefect involved in such activity.

All parents who favour being allowed to decide for themselves whether to use corporal punishment must agree that any parent should be entitled to prohibit a school from using corporal punishment on their child.
 
ok ... so is this law yet??? if not ... how can this be stopped??
also ... from the article ... it seems that the NPA does not even want to be the ones that have to implement this ... as it would be too time consuming .... so why is this even being considered??
 
Before Government wants to tell me how to raise my kid they should show me that they know how to properly run this country. As if that is ever going to happen...

They should really be focusing their efforts on people that breeds constantly that cannot afford it. But on the other hand the more children you have the higher your child support grant is.

My point is: In a third world country where "certain males" go round thinking that raping babies to get rid of aids works. You do not go round making silly laws like this.
Silly laws =

Making plastic bags thicker and making the customer buy it. Just drive around, our national flower is still blooming and lasting longer because its stronger. LOL!

Proposing to make a parent pay a fine when smacking your child. While worse things than that are happening daily! Its just sad.. So we are in a nanny state while the nanny is sick to the core. :rolleyes:

Noxibox, no offence, but I am not going to continue debating this topic with you or replying to comments of yours. Do you have kids? Were you in high school? I may be seen as horribly out of line for this comment, and may well be seen as a 'personal attack', which it is not intended to be. I agree that parents should be allowed a say in corporal punishment yes, but only to the degree that the corporal punishment in that instance classes as abuse. It sounds like you were never in a high school at all. Forgive me if I'm out of line, but such responses sound terribly naive.
