R499 DStv HD decoder unveiled

I am probably missing something here but if HD works with a single LNB why was a dual LNB necessary for HD viewing? Purely because of HD and xtraview being the same thing with the extra fee?

Would installation for R799 include a dish? Cant seem to find any info on this...

will these new decoders need 1 or two inputs like the HD PVR?
One.

No, because PVR functionality makes use of its own tuner.

Finally! Have a 2P HD PVR and just sold off our dual-view PVR as we never used it due to the SD picture. This new watch-only HD decoder is exactly what I have been looking for as a standby channel for those rare occasions when we need to watch 2 different channels in the house while giving the ROKU a rest :)

so does that old HD PVR still require 2 inputs just to view? im not interested in the pvr thingie.
Dit is so.

You need two cables because the one is for the horizontal and the other for the vertical polarization.

Non-sense...

I knew a MC developer, but here is something I pulled from the MC forum if you need further proof. Go through the forum and you'll see MC justify time & again about how difficult it was to add features for the Dual-View SD PVR.

http://forum.dstv.com/archive/index.php/t-5102.html

It used old expensive technology which came to the end of production live. It was also almost impossible to update the software.
The HD PVR may have started out more expensive, but it is a quantum leap technology-wise and will many more features added in time than would have been possible with the SD PVR.
HD PVR prices will also drop to below the old SD PVR price going into the future and XtraView now also offers much more flexible solutions to having viewing in multiple rooms.

we still have our Dual View SD PVR which has never been updated in the recent years (because its on the latest version) and there has been 0 problems with it.

Of course it hasn't been updated in years. MC left the software in a stable & desirable state.

Okay pretty cool then. I wonder when Game will get them in.

So it seems generally when they say installation included, it means it includes the dish and LNB. Not much info on their site though...

Question is.. I have 2x DSTV 1131 Decoders, if i leave the primary on 1131 and the new HD decoder on Xtraview will it work? Or do i need to replace them both with the new HD decoder.

I have the same setup, was about to ask this very question. If i may add,we have 3 tv's in the house, the one in the lounge receives both decoders channels via rf/coaxial cable. If i replace the one decoder connected to HD tv,would i still be able to "share" the channel with the TV in the lounge?

Thanks

PVR functionality, catchup, box office

I don't like monochoice but this is pretty cool of them

Was due for upgrade on my standard decoder (7 years old), so I might as well go for HD @ R499

Rather get yourself the DSTV Explora, it's a fantastic machine!

I had it for a few days when I wanted to replace my HD PVR2 with it, but didn't work well in my complex and I had to return it.

Love my HD PVR2 as well, but the Explora is in a different league. ;)

I'm sure one cable with a splitter will work.
That's unnecessary just to view on a two tuner PVR and will cause conflicts if you are trying to use PVR functionality.
