R50 Uncapped 24hrs - Discussion

Sheesh I tried the 24 hour uncapped bundle and used the wifi hotspot feature on my BB 9900, and I got speeds of ±196kb/s to ±260kb/s the entire 24-hours that my package was active, I had constant 3G signal and downloaded approximately 4GB in 24 hours...

Strange, sometime MTN doesn't pick up that you've used 150MB cap, I think I was lucky... Will try again month end, and keep you all posted.
 
Sigh after many months using this service I noticed the following.

Using awkward times for activating, example 16:30, some times rounded off to 17:00
Using only GPRS you still get throttled and speed is reduced to half of that, so in other words 13.8KB to around 6.7KB regardless.
With the throttling some times there are delays in the time the bundle is removed, and normal speeds can be accessed again, phoning MTN and having the phone line reset usually works, but not always.
Loading two bundles directly after one another is also I bad idea.

Hi all,

Is this bundle still heavily shaped? Tried it a very long time ago and was shaped to like 3.5kbps after 300mb or so? :sick:

I have this work around to pass the 150MB and download at full speed for 24 hours, I have been using it for the pass few months without a problem. I loaded it again on Wednesday it's the 3rd day now and it hasn't expired, should are be worried? I'm using a prepaid sim.
 
They still haven't caught on though.
R50 for 15+GB is a bargain.
 
i usually get about 2G a day on that deal, which is pretty sweet...
off topic, there seems to be something i do not understand with my modem.
i use a VKOM 301 USB modem, when it shows my speed, on average it's about 300kbps,
but i really do not see that when browsing and downloading stuff, on my browser, when downloading, the speed is +/-30kbps
after i turn off any program trying to connect to the net. Just wondering if this is a normal thing or should i get a different modem.

Max Download speed = Internet Speed / 8.

30 is normal on that line speed - The 300kbps is due to shaping (Mine currently shows 28.8Mbps - 8ta)
 
Played around with it this weekend.

Does exactly what it is supposed to. Got around 7 mbit/sec until 150 MB was reached. Then speed down to 15 kByte/sec or 120 kbit/sec.
Connection cut-off exactly after 24 hours.

Hoes hoes I have downloaded a 12GB update once :) It just didn't cap me
