R700 384kbps uncapped yah or nah???

Wouldn't be an uncapped account then. Would be a totally different offering...

An uncapped 384kbps account is really a 90 gig account. People just want their gigs cheap, if they can only give us 30-40 gigs then so be it.

Think about it, they could give us 40 gigs but they would rather just give everybody 5-10. :wtf:

With some innovative thinking and more unwashed masses these uncapped offering could be profitable even without a softcap.

If cybersmart don't want to make it happen then we will go to the isp who will.

Well I know that iBurst will be launching uncapped packages soon, or so they've said. And Openweb are currently testing it. And WebAfrica's new packages will be launched on 1 March, and they are sure to include uncapped, and beat or match everyone else on price. Screamers service it seems has stabilised, and I'm sure DigiChilli are not too far off either.

Once all the myBB geeks have switched to uncapped in a few months time, and are spread out accross the various ISPs (SAOL, DigiChilli, Screamer, Cybersmart, WebAfrica, Openweb, iBurst, etc), the ISPs will have a bit more breathing space, and can then focus on raking in the casual users... and getting their profits per user up...

Anything above 40gigs and these guys are running at a loss...
personally i feel the magic figure they all used in their accounting plots is under 15 gig a month.
R700 is way out of my range, but i guess it's more realistic.
Hows this, R350 for 10 international gigs and included in the deal is a seperate 50 gig local only account?

So perhaps my question should be would you pay R500 for a 40gig account?

I agree in principle with what you saying and that IS why I'm with Cybersmart. If there is an ISP out there who does innovate it's them.. (nightrider, grow for life, cap saver etc)..

No, R500 is my limit. I would however consider a 45GB package.

I'd have to look at something else, even if it's local only with a bit of international on the side but it would only be via SAIX for news servers.

So it appears all the major players offering a 384uncapped package are buckling under the demands of the bandwidth starved public.

DC and Screamer are really battling with a terribly degraded product and SAOL and Cybersmart are about to pull their 384uncapped packages.

Clearly the ISP's have come in with very aggressive pricing for these uncapped accounts and the losses cannot be sustained.

My question to you guys is if they were asking R700 (all in) for a 384kbps uncapped, unshaped account that works 24/7 would you bite???

How are Cybersmart about to pull their uncapped package? It hasn't even come out yet afaik? Other than to it's existing customers right?

Quite right. They no longer increasing the number of subscribers in their "test pool".

It's a trial, no need to launch it in order to cancel it.

If the R500 included line rental and it worked 100%, then yes i would pay that.

An added benefit of such a package would be the potential for speeds higher than 384kbps. I would be in dream land if i could get a 1024kbps 40 gig account for around R500. (hoping telkom increase line speed)

P.s. I would only be so accommodating while the costs are so high for isp's. Once telkom come to the party with their cloud access prices, and we get more international cables, then i want 4 meg uncapped.

(R500 - R151)/40GB = R8.73 per GB. Yip I'd probably bite on that. But then I don't want to be restricted to 384K. The only reason I am toleratring 384K is because it is uncapped at a reasonable price.

As soon as I have to deal with capped, don't tell me how fast I am allowed to download it. I'm paying for the GB, so don't restrict me!

Well I think 2010 will see some very interesting developments indeed in terms of affordable bandwidth. While everything else seems to be going up bandwidth is coming done.

A R500 a month uncapped account equates to around R6 per gig including line rental (90gig). Now if you consider the uproar when afrihost offered a gig at R29.....

Fair enough. What if we were to say you can have the bandwidth at that price but you can only use it at obcene hours of the day like 4am-8am?

Nah, not happy about being told when I can use it. I generally only download stuff overnight anyway (10pm-9am) or when I go out. If I need something in the middle of the day then I dont want to be restricted.

4am-8am really does not allow you to download much in that timeslot anyway.

That just wouldn't fly with me. I want to only use a single ISP, and have a single account, and have internet connectivity whenever I need it. I hate being forced to do anything, which is why I didn't sign up with Cybersmart's unofficial uncapped package, because you are forced to use the silly @cybersmart.co.za email address, and all the other restrictions in their Terms & Conditions.

I just want a simple, affordable solution. I want to configure my router/modem once, and forget about it. I want access whenever I need it and I want it to be affordable, with no restrictions. ADSL provides internet connectivity to my home wireless network, which includes 2 cellphones, a PS3, my laptop, and cellphones/laptops of occasional visitors or friends. GConnect didn't work for me either, thanks to their stupid connection manager and web authentication page.

So limiting the hours to these obscene times just won't work. What am I supposed to do the rest of the time?

I use my cybersmart exclusively during nightrider time slots. I have a 25 gig account with them. Costs R700 per month excluding line rentals and extras. Last month I downloaded 123gigs. The rest of the time I use a 5gig afrihost account. Forget the blimming t&c's, cybersmart want you using them in nightrider and whoever during normal working hours.

So you guys do the maths.

You use a download manager or utorrent. Schedule the pc to wake at 1am and 7.30am before u leave for work you stop all downloads. As I say used exclusively during nightrider you can maximize the value by 5 x the allocated cap.

Configuring the router to switch between ISPs is as simple as entering the relevant username and password.
