Do any other non-black citizens of this country feel offended by the insistence of black South Africans of classifying them selves as African and the rest of us by the colour of our skins or the country/continent that our ancestors came from?

It strikes me as being somewhat elitist or exclusive. It implies that the rest of us are aliens in this country and continent.
If for whatever reason racial classification is necessary then I think either black people should refer to themselves as black or black african. Personally if you're going to classify me you can call me a white african or caucasian african. I have no affinity with the continent of Europe and need a visa to go their just like every other South African.

100% agree.

I agree completely.

I agree

what is the difference between me being called European as opposed to someone being called a African

No, heck, it's a global society - call me what you like.

Many moons ago :D Whilst at school I remember my English teacher coming into the classroom with a puzzled look on his face. When we asked him what might be wrong, he answered "I had to place a call to America, when the receptionist took the call I over heard her saying she had an African on the phone". Continuing he added, "I cannot fault her."

It was there and then I realized I was an African, regardless of skin colour.

I think there's a lesson in that, an impartial observer without any emotional ties; seeing what was in front of them.

Well, you may have your reasons against being called a non-African, if you are not black, but the point of the matter is that the SA Government has decided that you are non-African. You may refer to all Government websites, administration, census processes, definitions, etc. to name but a few. So you have to comply with the Government's classification terminology, and there is nothing you can do about that. It has been decided like that and will never ever change.

So deal with it.
