A few people seem to think it is okay to have racist banter on this forum. Some folks say the forum is too open and others say it is too closed minded and discussions on race are suppressed. It is NOT true. We all and when I say all I mean the core community here support an open forum with radically free exchange of information but to facilitate that, it does take some sort of guideline to let everybody know on what road we are as a community.

You cannot come on this forum and insult people based on the colour of their skin... if you want to insult somebody post a factual bit of information that proves them wrong in debate but never ever will it be okay to get as personal as getting under somebody's skin in this way.

MyBroadband is a community for all races. It is a communtiy of the mind not the skin. Please keep racial disucssion scientific... that is about as far as it is ethically allowed here... it should be about understanding eachother... keep racism off the forum. There are other places where it is okay to have racist banter on other very specific sites...

This community has something magical about it and that is that it is large enough to have a buzz around it regarding ideas and new and forward thinking. We are almost like a super computer of thought (hehehehehehe) that can discuss and debate topics and issues and create a much higher level of awareness and understanding than was previously possible in South Africa. It is amazing to put it simply. We need to protect it and keep it alive and not polute it. Racist banter is a way of poluting it.

I felt it pertinent to post this.

It appears people feel unhappy that they aren't allowed to spew their racist vitriol because on the 'outside' others flash the race card freely so why shouldn't they be allowed to do so.

I agree. I am shocked at the sort of things people find acceptable to say.

+1

I think it says a lot about a person when the only thing they can use to justify a person's interaction with them or social issues is some superficial quality that has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Too the people who, for whatever reason, think race is significant factor in anything: Please crawl back into your cave and leave the rest of us alone

Are you going to sticky this thread? It really highlights there is a problem here when you have two stickys warning the racists from making stupid comments on this board. PS. By racism I also assume you're including religion bashing?

Not that I am condoning anything, but racism is surely a separate issue to the religion issue?

I think in the case of anti-Muslim sentiment that many on this forum have it's linked. Not sure if that's what Fudzy meant.

e.g. the anti-Mosque protesters in New York singling out a black man who was just walking past as a supporter of the mosque. Something similar to that.

This thread was to temper the racism issue.

Start another one if you want to debate the religious issues.

Oh so it's not OK to discriminate on the bases of race but it is OK to discriminate on the bases of religion? I would have thought discrimination is discrimination, even if it's based on Sexual, racial, religious, financial or whatever factors.

This thread is specifically addressing the issue of "racist banter".

If it was about "discrimination or equality", then no problem about the derailing.

So it's OK to discriminate and Bash members based on their religions and anything else but not race as that is reserved a special place and is thus taboo? How quaint .... as that fits some agendas very well indeed, Not?

Read the thread title a few more times, before some moron-bashing starts.

Well said. Antowan made it very clear ".......... to get under someones skin" THAT SHOULD INCLUDE ALL BASHING, ESPECIALLY IN THE PD SECTION.

Religion is a choice which is debatable on an intellectual level. Race, nationality, sexuality, gender, etc bear no significance and discrimination on that basis is in no way justifiable.

There is a fine line between justifiable discrimination (read: hiring charming females over men in a men's club) and unjustifiable discrimination (read: picking a person over someone equally or more qualified because of previously mentioned traits).

In my opinion, while religious discrimination is a grey area and should hold no bearing on how one is judged, it is an intellectual decision and is therefore not above criticism, debate or rationalisation and judgement (read: discrimination) is based on the factors regarding the decision behind why X religion is supported.

Just my opinion on this matter.

But yeah, as Sting says, this thread isn't the place for debating the differences between racism and religious intolerance. Head to PD for that :p
