2 months after logging my connectivity problems with rain on 11 Dec, Ref 725219, I am still no where near what you guys are getting, struggling along at about 9Mbps with frequent intermittent line drops. I am on their case daily now. Every time I get through, same old frickin message, "Someone will contact you". A technician eventually did come out to the premises about 2 weeks but did not bring a replacement unit as was communicated with me that they would, as he wanted to test the current unit first. To his surprise I had one of the first "problematic" indoor units. He made an appointment to bring a replacement ODU........ and have not heard from him since. Who do I have to give a BJ to to get this frickin unit replaced?

5g down again think this is the 3rd weekend in a row.

4g is up this time at least.

This has been my dilemma for the last couple of weeks. I was still happily chugging along with my beautiful Rain connection giving me over 470mbps down, with absolutely no issues since I got the 5G in November, with nothing but praise for Rain whenever somebody asked me what my experience was with this new 5G. Then all of a sudden the connection started dropping somewhere in January. Logged a ticket with Rain support via my phone, did a followup the next day, no response, tried phoning them for 2 days straight and I got through but their call center line quality was / is so bad I could barely hear a thing the person was saying leaving me frustrated and still sitting with the same issue unresolved.

Tried the online chat method only to be stuck in position 1 on the queue for infinity. Magically 3 days later my connection was back but I noticed the download speed has halved while upload is the same, so being 200+mbps I left it cause its still great speeds. Since then, it's been a rollercoaster of ups and downs. Down for 2 days, up for 5, down for a day up for a couple of hours, down for a day, up for 2 days...... Just today, literally just today I lost 5G connectivity 5 times, and no amount of router restarts solves the issue, it just fixes itself spontaneously. Sometimes in a couple of seconds, sometimes longer.

When it drops I have 5 signal bar 4G connection, but with really varying speeds. Just now a couple of minutes ago when the 5G went out again, I tested the 4G and got 5mb down and 0.9mb up. Yet I could not even open Gmail or this forum it just kept on timing out, while trying to open a couple of sites the 5G just popped back up and I was able to open everything immediately without issue.

A close friend of mine is on a hospital power grid with no Loadshedding, the tower is so close to his house that a loud fart will echo off the dishes, yet he is experiencing 100% what I am. He also signed up for 5G on black Friday and has been happily using the service with just about no issues up until about 3 weeks ago. He's connection is so bad he can't even log into Steam or Battle.net. and has also been battling to get support from them. So reading your comment @mrlgm007 and some others leads me to believe they are battling with the network but not forthcoming with a lot of info as to what exactly is going on. The go to answer is "Loadshedding"

I cannot go to another provider as there is no fiber in the area and Telkom already disco'd the copper here, and I use my internet primarily for online gaming so latencies, packet loss etc is a major thing for me. None of these Wisps that I have tested gave a satisfactory connection quality so I am 100% stuck with Rain.

I work in IT myself, and I understand hardware and networking related issues happen, Loadshedding screws up the towers etc etc, but the major problem we are sitting with here is absolutely TERRIBLE support and feedback from an ISP that essentially has a fantastic product and a great price.

What can cause these issues?

Theoretically where along the mobile connectivity chain can things go wrong that cause the end user to have limited or no connectivity.

I'm assuming all towers are wired into the closest fibre network, if that is the case is there anyone that uses fibre in the areas with 5G issues that can comment if the fibre is also going down with the tower speeds?

What fibre provider would Rain typically use?

Yay, after fighting since 11 December, my unit has finally been replaced with an ODU :D
Rain techie was by my place this morning, new unit setup and tested.
I was averaging 60Mbps on the old unit. On the new unit, we clocked a max speed of 398Mbps on the ground.
Tonight I will setup the unit in the designated place on the roof, do some aiming, and restest.
So happy after all that fighting :D

Edit: 20:35:
Not aimed properly, darkness caught me in, here is current results of several tests, Ookla not up to spec tonight, can't find a fast enough server, but rain's optimizer gives me a good result:

I'm happy :D

I asked for the location of the closest 5G tower to me and it is actually at an Openserve/Telkom exchange. So I presume they use whatever fibre provider is available.

This is interesting, upload speed is over two times greater than down speed. What a sad thing to see, unless one is a content creator

Fibre at home for that. Still great tho.

Got a PM from rain asking for account info so will see.
