Theewaters is not over 100%

Theewaterskloof is definitely full this morning (Wed 17th). Unfortunately the graph scale goes from 60% to 110%, so you can't see really see the time point when it reached 100%.

The other point is that Theewaterskloof is relatively shallow. The top 40% of capacity only represents a 4m rise in the water level. The final 1% of capacity represents a rise of 10cm, which is quite hard to measure exactly:

Cape Town records five times more car crashes amid severe weather

The number of vehicle crashes and accidents in the Cape Town area was more than five times higher than usual last week, authorities reported.

The City of Cape Town’s Traffic Services said it attended to 293 vehicle accidents during the past week, which saw the Western Cape province hammered by unprecedented heavy rainfall, which was enough to increase dam levels by 25%.

“The inclement weather may have kept some criminals at bay, but it’s been a busy week for our Traffic Services and emergency services who attended to at least 293 crashes ranging from fender benders to more serious incidents,” the City of Cape Town said in a statement.

“It’s likely the actual tally is far higher, as not all incidents are necessarily reported through the same channels. The worse the weather, the better our driving habits should be.”

Meanwhile Cape Town Traffic Services arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol and three for reckless and negligent driving, while 120 public transport vehicles were impounded.

Same reason I see people kite surfing in rainstorms and still wearing shorts when the weather is this cold

Cape town people are just weird, maybe it's culture shock, or maybe it's just how things are down here, nothing to be concerned about.

One word : "weed"

Looks like it'll be solid rain till the weekend but sunny skies on sunday?

Perfect conditions for @capd to go for a drive, way fewer criminals around

Rain started around 5am in Kenilworth. Absolutely bucketing down now (6:30am).

Edit: 30mm in our gauge at 7am. Slight lull now, but large puddles are back on our lawn...

It's raining now, so much water and it's not raining much harder than last week, I was late for work this morning as I had to clean the drains at the back of the house as the water came within cm's from the back door. I'm absolutely soaking wet now.

Gents, don't know about the rest of cape town, but Kuilsriver is getting absolutely hammered..

River going past my house is already at a far higher level with the last 3.5 hours of rain, than it was with all the rain last week together..

We have water pooling in areas on the road it typically does not..

Coming towards Stellenbosch via Helshoogte was insane this morning. Helshoogte has pretty good drainage but the car felt at the verge of hydroplaning at every corner.

Town itself also flooded in some parts.

Absolutely hurling it down in Edgemead. The drive to work on the N7 was also fraught with people slowing right down to a crawl.
