Rain and storm for Cpt

Moderate to heavy rain started over Cape Town around 2am this morning (Fri 7th), and is likely to persist for several hours.

Cumulative totals in excess of 20-30mm are possible, particularly over the mountains.

So far 23mm this morning for Dwarsberg :-)
It should be the best Dec we have had in Dwarsberg for the last 5 years.
We are approx. 70mm away from the best year since 2014.
 
Wow, more than 40mm in our rain gauge in Kenilworth up to 6am! That is the heaviest overnight total I can recall in the whole of 2018. Still raining, though less intense now.

Puddles on our lawn! The grass was dead, so maybe it will revive a little...

Edit: Sun came out by 8am. Huge waterfalls on Table Mountain, as shown in photo by @saor!

Edit: Another 8mm since 6am! Garden contractor says they got 12mm in Philippi.

Really happy for you guys.
SAWS has been announcing that CT area as well as us can expect a wetter than normal summer (Dec, Jan, Feb).
So far for us, Dec has been very dry.
 
A weak cutoff-low is brushing the SW-Cape coast today (Tues 18th). There have been some isolated heavy rain showers this morning over part of Cape Town.

Edit: 12mm in our gauge in Kenilworth. 8mm in my cousin's gauge in Rondebosch. Not much elsewhere, away from Table Mt...

Edit: The rain took a while to reach SAEON Dwarsberg, which eventually recorded 23mm for the day!

Another even weaker cut off low is forming off the coast. Very abnormal weather conditions for us in the north. Extremely hot weather combined with significant tropical moisture in the atmosphere leads to intense localised thunder storms.
