Rain and storm for Cpt

Interesting to see how different the averages are considering how close those locations are to one-another

There are huge local variations in rainfall around the Cape Metropole, due mainly to the orographic effect of the mountains. This image is not very detailed, but shows the extreme range in values, from <500mm/pa to >2000mm/pa.

What's the prospects for Cape Town the next couple of days? My wife and I will be landing at CT Intl Airport at about 08:30 tomorrow morning and will be in the Cape Town area until Saturday when we fly back to OR Tambo.

Raining very nicely in Century City now. The only problem is I'm not at home on the couch under a blanket...

I think last year we had some out of season ran that got us out of the drought.... this year does not look good though.

I expect next year its back to water restrictions again.

last year this time was also kak
when we got that snow in June it made a massive difference
as just prior to that we had a few days like today which helped saturate the soil.

Up in Villiersdorp the snow came, and at back of Franschoek mountains. I watched it from the Sailing club there. Was a proper snow
And then the snow started melting and it took 2 weeks to melt
That water was ice cold and made it all the way to the dam, not sinking nor evaporating

I spent every weekend out there and saw each week in June and July how the dam just filled up so quickly

So yes this rain is gay now but it is making sure that when the big rain comes our soil wont soak it up like a sponge :thumbsup:
 
Doesn't look like the heaviest rain down there unfortunately...

Looking at a private webcam overlooking the city the wx looks really terrible though :confused:

Thanks for the radar (which I can no longer access), though that only shows the heavy rain showers, which make up half the picture. A lot of the fine orographic rain near the mountains does not show up on the radar, because the droplet size is too small, though it still amounts to a lot of water over several hours. It is proportional to the number of drops per unit volume and the sixth power of drops' diameter and is thus used to estimate the rain or snow intensity.

i love that part, once about 6yrs ago it was full (storm drain was clogged) i went through full steam ahead, almost a metre deep in the centre
i kakked myself
luckily i hit it fast and the momentum pushed me through
thank goodness my airfilter sat under my seat on my Honda Twister :laugh::ROFL::laugh::ROFL:

With the Honda NC750X DCT it sits in front, but very high up so i should be okay today

EDIT: Cops were not impressed with me, they had the road closed LOL
 
Yoh, thundering down now. No point in trying to make a phone call, the person on the other side wouldn't be able to hear me!
