Rain and storm for Cpt

heard some rain last night 02h30 in somerset west
but not much to see this morning going to work :(

Can you guys pull up the stats for last 10 or so years of our rainfall for Cape Town and see what's happening?
Are the rainy seasons starting later and ending later?
or what?

The SAWS site is down for me again for some or other reason, so can't check the long term figures.
The CoCT water level report for 27 May 2019 suggests that the upturn this year is about 2 weeks late.

Have a look at this report or earlier ones. That report shows a graph that gives the figures for many years. It would seem on that report, that the upturn has been as early as week 15 in the past.

May is often very little rainfall for Western Cape.
What we need in a months time is good snowfall like we had last year end of June.

That runoff into Theewaterskloof dam a week later was amazing, icy cold water travelling many kilometres to the dam and not been evaporated :thumbsup: I witnessed it 1st hand as i was at Theewaterskloof dam every single weekend then.
But before that we need a few rains to saturate the soil so that it isn't a sponge that just absorbs any water going to the dams.

True story. This was the Berg River dam in the middle of July last year. Took these pics during the Bastille Day trail run. Dam was looking good (even if I was hurting like a mofo!)

The shoreline was clearly visible around the edge of the dam, indicating that it wasn't totally full, but a marked improvement from 2017.

We are not far from Keurboom Road and also measured 1.5mm this morning, taking us to 105mm for May and 196.5mm for 2019 to date. Our 29 year average for May for rainfall in our garden is 149.6mm, and 302.5mm for the year to date.
 
I see on ENCA they're expecting thunderstorms to move down from Namibia over the northern cape and slightly into the western cape... Will be Interesting to see how that plays out

Not heavy storms, but could be interesting (nothing much else on the charts!) This is certainly the time of year when troughs move down from Namibia (just before winter).

The outlook for rain is still looking very limited. However recent forecasts show significantly colder conditions starting on Wed 5th, with light snow possible on the highest peaks in the Western Cape early on Thurs 6th, potentially spreading to the Drakensberg later on Fri 7th:

Overview for the next 3 days (Mon 3rd to Wed 5th), modest rain for the SW-Cape (only), sharply cooler temperatures for the entire southern half of the country by Wed 5th.

yeah its not rainy month yet if we look at last year and previous year
it appears seasons are starting later and later every year
