We went at about 10:00. Long Queue. The walking sticks worked! Straight to the front. 10 min later we were on our way home!

I've been a bit under the weather (metaphorically speaking), but eagerly awaiting real weather on Sun 19th and Mon 20th. All forecasts are showing a proper cold-front, with good amounts of rain over the SW-Cape mountains (only). See: http://www.yr.no/place/South_Africa/Western_Cape/Cape_Town/long.html

Edit: The 5 day rainfall outlook is good (including the coming cold-front), but the rest of the month of May looks dry (not shown).

I looked at last years weekly rainfall numbers which we get from CoCT.

We had a 20 week run where the dams increased every week, 21MAY2018 - 07OCT2018. It accounted for a 55% uplift for the big 6.

Quite uncanny we should be expecting a decent bit of run on the 19/20MAY

Not the major winter rainfall.

Rainfall patterns in the Cape are always periodic, the main difference is that during the dry season the cold fronts pass harmlessly to the south of us. Even in the middle of winter there can be ten day long periods of sunny days (with cold nights). Occasionally there can be periods of 7-10 days of sequential cold-fronts, though we tend to remember these more vividly than the more normal conditions.

In reality weather is a semi-random jumble of events, and no season is identical to any other year. If you move further north or south, the seasons become more predictable, either desert or maritime. We are positioned halfway in between.

Persistent moderately heavy rain in Kenilworth from 8pm onwards. Was a bit surprised when I checked rain gauge at 10:50pm, 24mm already! Going to be rather a wet night...

Edit: The rain was a bit more intermittent during the early hours this morning, but an additional 38mm up to 4am. Total 62mm overnight, and still showery.

Edit: Another 16mm up to 9am, cumulative total 78mm! Very large waterfalls visible on Table Mt!

Man! Am I disappointed, Lay in the darkness of my bedroom this cool winter morning, waiting for the rain, Oh! Lord, The Sweet waters from above !.......

NOTHING!!!!! The weather report stated for the last three days that the heavens above my ancient desert shall open and spew forth water from above, soaking these dry sands.....BUT Nothing......

Must say I am looking extremely forward to the rain in the desert and hold my breath in anticipation....
