So weird, it was a berg wind and 30deg in EL today. I just went outside and the berg wind is still blowing and its hot af.

The front is approaching from the west and pushes the air before it. As the front moves closer to the interior of the air is pushed down from the escarpment and to the south coast. When air is forced lower, it warms up, and blows as a hot, dry wind.
There, thats about it that I can remember from Aardrykskunde from school

A lot of the comments on this storm can be covered by looking at the synoptic chart predicted for today. Wind directions around the country are all different. N.B. Minimal rain is predicted for the Eastern Cape.

I just checked the rain gauge in Kenilworth, another 38mm up to 4.30am, total of 89mm in less than 24 hours!?

Looks like the intensity will subside somewhat, but persist for another 24 hours. The wind will pick up later this afternoon (Fri 10th), and become very cold as the direction switches to south westerly. This will bring heavy snow on the mountains.

Same. This is the most it has rained non-stop for quite some time. I don't remember a cold front as strong as this one last year. The flooding is going to be bad

Agreed, it's been raining non stop the whole night right through here in Milnerton.

One swallow does not make a summer, one cold-front does not make a winter. We need about 10 for a normal rainy season. This event should count as 1.5 fronts. We need another 5 to fill the dams.

It sure feels like it though. Our communal field has turned into dam.

It has arrived!

Ten minutes ago whilst completing my Friday morning shave, the old mining house gave a brief shudder, the wind roared outside, rattling the rusted window frames and then....... slowly at first, increasing in intensity, the dark morning heavens surrendered their damp gift to the dry and ancient Namib, The rain had eventually arrived, The Moose smiled as he cut himself, "Cannot wait to walk to work just now....." , he thought unto himself....

38mm recorded in Oakdale on my station today, since rain fall started..

A further 40mm fell to date since my last post.. I couldn't see last night but, either my neighbor or I had a waterfall running over a gutter last night around 10pm..

Just came back inside from feeding the dog and it's piss cold, but no rain, no wind, nothing. As you say, surreal.

I emptied the pool by about 10-12cm yesterday at 6pm.

This morning it's back to the same level!

Rainwater tanks (and swimming pools) in Cape Town winters actually become a hazard! Needs to have options to deal with excess water flow. Seemed hard to imagine when we were in the drought...
