Rain and storm for Cpt

Yesterday had an unexpected cloudburst for an hour or so around 1pm and fair bit of rain fell overnight.

Anyone checked their guages?

Light drizzle coming down as I type...

Well, what's a man to do? So I headed East to conquer the pass and was not disappointed to look back West into the valley from whence I had emerged...

I was about to head back down when I realised I had nowhere to be, no appointments, no family, nothing so I thought to head further East along the top of the escarpment,

A signboard indicated that the town of Nieuwoudtville was ahead and that this soon to be discovered town was the Bulb Capital of the world....

"Bulb Capital of the world? Up here in the middle of nowhere?", I thought to myself, Learning something of interest always tickled me, an obscure fact to throw out at the next braaifire.....

The town of Nieuwoudtville was flat , dusty and scruffy...... but what did catch my attention was an extremely beautiful church.... a sandstone church....... this stunning structure made the drive ever so worthwhile...

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but you okes in here all seem to appreciate things of interest.... :p

As I always do after driving a new road, I research the towns and places only to my horror did I realize I missed something called the Nieuwoudtville Waterfall....... " A waterfall out here? Plunging off the escarpment to the parch Sandveld floor!"

So next time I go hurtling down the N7 I will have to detour once again..... :unsure:

Oh! don;t get me started about Heerenlogement Cave...... that's another tale.....

Go to Nieuwoudtville in September for the Bulbs and the Waterfall is an amazing site to see.

Barely 2.5mm in our gauge in Kenilworth.

Burst water main nearby produced a much bigger puddle than the rain!

Edit: The rain is not quite over yet, sudden gust of wind and brief shower at 10am. Very dark over False Bay.

Katspoegie now, lower Newlands. We had 2mm overnight. Our highest reading for March (we are in our 32nd year of keeping records) based on 31 years was 104mm in 2014 (lowest 0.5mm in 1999) and we are up to 103mm for March 2021 after what fell overnight. The previous 2nd highest was 58.8mm, 31yr average 22.18mm, so yes it's been a good month, though Dec, Jan and Feb were all well below our averages for those months.

We had less than 2mm in Kenilworth this morning.

There may be another weak cold-front over the Easter long-weekend, but no significant rain.
 
Ok, Wtf is going on with this frikken hot weather at this time of the year?

^ Update for Milnerton: 104 big drops, a sudden x4 drop shower.
 
It's definitely feeling cooler in the mornings here in Helderberg, but when i look at the forecast for the next 2 weeks, there is still no sign of rain..
