Mont Rochelle is gonna be an hrs hike if you wanna go play in the snow. Matroosberg is still open and allowing people in this weekend. It's only an hr and a half drive from Cape Town. There you can literally drive right up to the snow
I hope he knows that the snow is white

Just saw a photo on Facebook and the snow is right at the entrance of Mont Rochelle so not a far walk for those tourists heading out that way.

My weather friend in Somerset West says the snow on the Hottentots Holland mountains is as low as he has ever seen, perhaps below 1000m. Only trace amounts below 1200m though.

It is pretty low indeed, Im heading to shops now and will have a look at the Helderberg Mountains

Also looks pretty low in the Jonkershoek valley. Too many CA plates driving at 10 km/h on our roads; think I will put on my hiking boots and head to the Banhoek Conservancy.

Tons in Helderberg everywhere, didnt take a photo as the rain started coming down hard on me on the bike and Im in normal clothes and not biking gear, that rain is icy cold.
Tonight is gonna be colder, let's hope there is even more snow tonight, tomorrow will look awesome

This morning was lekker frosty at Newlands. If I didn't have a bunch of work I needed to get done this weekend I'd like to take a hike to the top.

Yeah I am kicking myself for not getting up earlier and heading up there for the snow
Cant go tomorrow morning as I already have a hike at Cape Point. :(

There is no more rain today, and no further snow tonight (except over the Drakensberg). The snow that did fall will still be there tomorrow, except at the very lowest elevations (below 1200m).

Epic morning out in Mont Rochelle with knee deep to waist deep snow. Had to break the trail up DuToitskop with snow showers on and off

Small patches of snow on the pass up from about 500m, plenty in the car park when we started but snow line now about 100m above the car park. People parking like idiots as usual.

This afternoon's satellite overpass shows slightly clearer skies, and allows a nice zoom in over the SW-Cape mountains:

@Gordon_R would there be snow I can go show the kids tomorrow somewhere close to cape Town? The mountains towards Franschoek looks like it's covered in snow, would it be worth driving out there?
Out beyond Ceres towards Matroosberg today

Plenty of snow and fun only kak part was driving through Ceres. Some farmers opened gates for people to come and play, there was a massive queue to get into Matroosberg.
