Which would be better coming from Somerset West tomorrow? Matroosberg or franschhoek pass tomorrow?

Want the kids to experience the snow.

I'm going to take a drive through the Franschoek pass tomorrow, hoping that there'll be snow to see.

Pass is closed , thought the same thing about 3 weeks ago , you will have to go either via Paarl/N1 or via Gouda/Tulbagh.

Sorry , my mistake read too quickly , Wellington Bains Kloof is closed.

Bain's Kloof pass is quite historic and pretty, but definitely not the fastest way to get anywhere. It often suffers from rockfalls in wet weather, and this winter has been really wet...

The sun is out today, with only some high clouds, so there should be good views of the snow from all angles.
 
Ended up going to matroosberg via Villiersdorp.

I wanted to turn right onto the N1 and get in via the R46 past aquila but dicided to take a chance with going through ceres.

Big mistake as I ended up in 2 hours of traffic just to get to matroosberg Nature Reserve.

Still managed a couple hours with the kids in the snow. When we left at 5pm we decided to rather not go back though ceres but rather go towards Touwsrivier on the R46 and then back down on the N1 and through Worcester and Villiersdorp. Got home at just after 7pm.

Just got off the phone with family that also went through and they are far from the N1 coming back through ceres and still need to go through the tunnel and toll booths with all that traffic. They left about the same time as us and will only get home after 10pm.

In all my life I've never gone to the see the snow in ceres but with kids you have to make an effort just for them.

This is the closest I've been to snow and the next big snow fall I'll be going again but definitely not through ceres. 2 hours driving and 3 hours of traffic if you try to get in via ceres.
 
I ended up not going anywhere was my wife's birthday and we ended up having family over right through from Saturday, so didn't get time to drive out.

There will always be another snow event (even with climate change), though probably not this season. Weekdays are much less crowded, if you can take off from work.
