Surely that's not going to help when there's a storm that comes along and erodes all the soil. Tree roots hold the soil together and help avoid landslides.

Granted you might prefer indigenous trees to do it rather than pines. But just cutting down and not planting doesn't help anyone.

Did they plant any indigenous trees in place of the felled trees?

Yup, each winter I see more and more trees getting blown over.
Those old pine trees helped a lot with protection,
Erosion isnt a problem, the water levels hardly ever got that high to the trees

The dick heads. Some of the best camping spots around those trees, I even remember a drunk oke driving his car into one at 3 in the morning, it was great.

If the temperature is below 8-10C, and there is precipitation, there is a chance of snow on Table Mountain. That really depends on the time of day when the front passes. Early morning is the best, and mid-afternoon not. Overnight can be good, but warm rain can wash out the snow. Will probably know closer to the time.
