Yes, the cold-core upper-trough is producing the cloud and drizzle. However waves and swells are produced by surface winds, which is why the ship synoptic chart shows isobars.

And the fact that it is now new moon helped a bit as well.

The waves hit Gordan's Bay just as bad, especially at Bikini Beach. The ground floor flats got a proper clean, although a bit salty.

Some people got caught in the waves that was walking on the road at Bikini Beach. Some cuts and bruises apparently.

During the mid 90's I was on the Cape Town to Simonstown train that passes right past the Brass Bell.

It was rush hour and the train was absolutely packed with commuters. I was seated and crushed-up next to the window and had it all the way down because it was so stuffy in the train from all the passengers.

As we pulled into Kalk Bay station which the Brass Bell is part of, the train got hit by a massive freak wave. It was just this massive wall of water shooting through the window. People inside the train, in business suits and work dresses were completely soaked and covered in kelp and seaweed.

There was just this shocked, and stunned silence in the carriage with the overpowering stench of brine and kelp lingering in the air, water dripping everywhere and sloshing on the floor. People were just looking dumbfounded at each other unable to comprehend what just happened.

What a kak day. All clouds and didn't even get any useful rain.

Rained most of the day in Kenilworth, (near the mountain). 14mm in our gauge up to 9pm.

A significant cutoff-low will pass from NW to SE over the Cape interior on Sun 24th and exit via the Eastern coast on Mon 25th. The details (and impact on CT) are still difficult to predict this far in advance.

Towards the end of the period snow is likely over the high peaks in the Drakensberg:
