Also remember that Cape fynbos also needs fire to regenerate. So with effective fire prevention measure in place there are less and less natural veld fires. This necessitates human intervention to keep the fynbos healthy. But yes, sometimes it's also about fire prevention.

interesting, so its a requirement? and what if Humans didnt start random fires all the time?
will it stop growing? or will it rely on something natural like a bolt of lightning to grow?

Fires do start naturally. I'm no expert on how they start but they do.

Afaik the fire also kills invasive / alien species, allowing the local plants to get first dibs at the reset land.

Yes its a requirement but in a "natural" world they are way less frequent and because there are no fences wildlife can escape.
The issues with fires in the current reality is that because of all the human intervention and destruction, a single fire could kill off everything.
Even the presence of invasive species and trees will make the fires more intense and bigger. Alien grass is a big problem.

What should and does happen is controlled burns, out of the windy season where the fynbos can rejuvenate and other wildlife can escape.
 
A weak cold-front will brush the SW-Cape on Fri 5th, bringing minimal rain, but rather cooler temperatures to the southern half of SA.

Long range forecasts indicate a significant cutoff-low developing over the southern half of SA on Sun 7th. The potential exists for significant rainfall (50-100mm) in places, but it is too soon to give specific details.

The cold-core upper trough will bring drastically below average temperatures for almost the entire country by Mon 8th:

Ruins my garden and pool, never mind going out and about too... so I hate the wind. I know CPT is windy come November to Feb, but this time of year should be wind free!

Cape Town would be the most amazing place on earth if it had Joburg's weather. Can't have it all I guess. :ROFL:

You mean the N2 bridge and various other roads are going to be washed out again and the smaller towns cut off for days..
