Yup, my 4th one. Have you been on those roads recently? Last year it was not too bad but I have done some Transkaroos where you have sinkplaat pad for long stretches.

Sounds like the wife's Astra, damn that car is filthy.

We are opposites then as my wife's car, the one that bloody always messes in my car, is always spotless. Every few days it's get's cleaned out. I've worked 7 days a week for months now so never get time.

My vehicle was washed last year sometime...
Not holding breath for rain... its already late, all it does is threaten with high AF humidity, and then the next day its hot again.

We got a bit of rain here in Stellies today, where are you?

Coming down nicely in the CBD. I think I should stay late as traffic is going to be hectic !!

Outside my window now

12.5mm in Kenilworth up to 4.15pm.

Much more (30mm+) over the mountains.

Not expected to continue for long (fast moving front), nor extend very far inland.

Plenty more cold-fronts early next week, Mon 23rd onwards. Potential for very good rains, but models are still rather uncertain.

Plett region as well?

Dwarsberg now looking at 70mm'ish for last 24 hours, not sure how that would translate/compare to TWK?

Dwarsberg figures are looking good, but the runoff is likely to be limited due to low soil moisture, at the end of a long drought. The peak itself only represents a small fraction of the catchment area, and rainfall in the lower lying areas was likely to be less than 5-10mm.

The last time we had 30mm of rain for Dwarsberg in December, it had zero effect on Theewaterskloof. In fact TWF requires 2 years of rainfall to fill up, since it is a large dam with a small catchment (compared to the Berg River Dam).

Also remember that the annual average for Dwarsberg mountain catchment is 3000mm, so 70mm is barely 2% of the amount we need.

74.42 mm at Dwarsberg ----- will definitely lead to run off
36. 32 mm at Comstantiaberg Really good rains for a short period.
10.9 mm in the Cederberg ----- also a good downpour.

If that happens on the long weekend I will have to cancel my camping plans probably, don't really want to do that. My kids are looking forward to it.

Not looking good for the long weekend in Plet. But then camping is not camping without rain and trenches that fail, wet sleeping bags and rain soaked bread with all the wood wet ....

With this our first camping outing, the lasting camp was cancelled as I landed up in hospital a few days before our booking, that would effectively mean the missus and the kids won't want to do it again. :(

None of the forecasts are showing rain for the long weekend itself. Too soon to be sure, but the heavy stuff is Mon 23rd and Wed 25th to Thurs 26th.

I'll definitely check in with you before we leave for the weather, thanks for the updates.

The high pressure that dominated the western cape has moved on rather quickly.
Really strange lows developing overland as well as just south of the coast.
Weather is going to change rather rapidly in the next few hours.

Nothing changed
