I had a Jetta 5 Tsi, and besides being somewhat unreliable that thing was brilliant. Nice quality inside, no rattles, really nice to drive with a soft suspension, quiet inside as well. It that car was as reliable as the Passat I would have driven it for many more years.

Yep, cheers for that Geoff.D - another decentish day in the mountains!

According to http://www.capetown.gov.za/Family a...and-sanitation-services/this-weeks-dam-levels - dam levels have risen by +12000Ml so far this week which should translate into us ending MAY2018 with more water than what we started it with. Hey, at this point, I will take every bit of good news :-)

Long may it last :-) Keen to see uplift today(+18000Ml week to date!) and what is reported on Monday - hoping for some decent runoff.
Saw some pics of Table Mountain waterfalls that have just started again, great to see!

This May has definitely seen more rain than last year, and with dam levels being above where they were last year - I'm slightly optimistic about 2019.
 
The outlook for next week is quite promising, with moderately heavy rain predicted for Mon 28th, and very heavy rain for Thurs 31st. Cumulative totals in excess of 100mm are likely in parts of the Boland and Overberg, with considerably more possible over the mountains.

Strong winds are also likely at times, and snow is possible on the highest mountain peaks.

By contrast, the following week (early June) looks relatively dry.

The AAO index is expected to turn positive later this coming week, which supports the view that next week will drier.
 
Lovely rain falling in Montague Gardens. Weather outlook looking good (rain-wise) for the rest of the week.
 
Jamestown is properly wet too - but this silly rain should focus itself on the catchment areas instead. Pffft. Silly rain...
 
29mm in Kenilworth, starting from 10am up to midday. Very wet! (Edit: Stopped just after I posted).

Not so much away from the mountains, and rather patchy showers inland...

Rainfall yesterday was quite scatterd, though the SAWS reports a few good numbers for the 24 hours to 8am on Tues 29th: http://www.weathersa.co.za/media/data/climate/nr_daily_rai.pdf

Highest include Ceres 46mm, Kirstenbosch 38mm, Porterville 33mm, Wellington 33mm, Grabouw 28mm, Jonkershoek 28mm, Paarl 22mm, Cape Columbine 21mm, etc. Also of note was Niewoudtville (NC) 20mm.

The SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment station recorded 57mm yesterday.

The total in our rain gauge in Kenilworth was 40mm. My cousin in Rondebosch (only 4km away) recorded 20mm.

The outlook for the rest of the week is mixed, with some rain on Thurs 31st, and more inland on Fri 1st.

Edit: Still a long way to go, but positive signs of inflow...

Last night was the heaviest rain in a very long time. Came thundering down.
