There are a few spots where the water runs across the road surface, especially on the R44 behind your house where the road splits and becomes dual carriage. Best to stick to the limit there. When I left for work just after 6 there was very little traffic on the road.

That road was just done over, weird that there is still water running across there.

LOL, that's why you drive a damn car! Asking for your own death by driving a motorbike in this weather.

Believe me - If I had a car, I'd be in one.

Biked in myself, definitely get some good wet weather gear. I recommend "Oxford", bone dry this side. I also keep a change of cloths at the office for just in case.

Got a set; just so happened to be at the office instead of at home.

Numerous forecasts are predicting heavy rain for CT and the SW-Cape over the next 5 days. A first weak front will pass on Fri 29th, followed by a significant winter storm on Sun 1st into Mon 2nd.

A sharp drop in temperature will also bring widespread snow to large parts of the Cape interior by early Mon 2nd, spreading to the Drakensberg later on Mon 2nd.

It is difficult to specify exact numbers, but cumulative totals in excess of 100mm are likely in the mountain catchment areas:

12mm in Kenilworth up to midday. Still raining hard!

Edit: 21.5mm in Kenilworth up to 1.30pm. Rain stopped now.

Edit: About (20mm) 30mm on SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment up to (1pm) 2pm.

Edit: 29.5mm on my cousin's gauge in Rondebosch.

Seems the only time it is not raining is tomorrow morning... just in time for my 15K run up Spookhill.

Numerous forecasts have indicated heavy rain and cold for the SW-Cape on Sun 1st into Mon 2nd. Recent model runs indicate that the freezing-level may be below 1000m early on Mon 2nd, producing major snowfalls over mountain peaks around Cape Town, including some that do not often see snow. Final details may change closer to the time, but those who have the opportunity should consider making plans for snow-chasing!

Matroosberg and Sutherland....

Snow is likely to be accessible much closer to Cape Town, if the forecast holds true! Those locations are best for road access, but are rather a long drive, and get quite crowded. There are plenty of options, particularly if you are prepared to go off road, and do a bit of hiking. Details will be clearer closer to the time...

I get to drive from Oranjemund to CPT International Airport tomorrow morning (789km) , drop off , wait an hour pickup, head over to the Heldeberg in the evening then on Monday morning drive back to NAM. Am I looking forward to taking a slow drive back in the weather. I once saw snow from the N7 on a mountain(hill) just past the Namaqualand town of Garies. Reckon I shall be seeing it again.

If I see snow that is accessible, I shall be making a detour.

I get to drive back to the Cape a mere 90 hours later on Friday again and will be keen to see the Clanwilliam Dam and the anticipated rain puddles that form on the usually dry Namaqualand surface....

/Moose starts singing the Christmas carol, Let it snow, Let it snow..... :whistling:

Keep us posted on what you see! Once experienced a snow storm in the Kalahari in the mountains around Danielskuil and Postmasberg! In November nogal! A few year ago in July, got caught in a snow storm in the mountains between Sutherland and Laingsburg. Came out of the blue as far as we were concerned, because we had no Internet access at the time. Working and living in tents. Fun and games but a rather unique experience.

Different charts (based on the same model run) show traces of snow far into the Northern Cape, and the high ground of southern Namibia early on Mon 2nd.

Note that all of these predictions are fickle, since a 1C difference in temperature means a 150m change in the freezing-level.

Note that less snow is predicted over the Drakensberg in recent forecasts.

Edit: There are some differences between the two charts, even though both are based on identical data. The snow-forecast database has much more detailed topographic elevations, but applies a minimum threshold of 1mm rain (1cm snow), so that the ground coverage of the two charts appears different.
