Rain and storm for Cpt

Very patchy rain, almost nothing in Kenilworth, which usually gets a lot. Friend in Somerset West says it is pouring (10mm+).

The SAEON Dwarsberg (Jonkershoek) mountain catchment station shows about 25mm between 5am and 11am.

Edit: Still raining on Dwarsberg, about 50mm up to 3pm.

There was supposed to be thunder and lightning over Cape Town yesterday (Sat 2nd), but it never happened...

Hardly anything on the west coast too.

Wondering about the dam levels - we seem to only take note when it rains.
Hope this heat doesn't do too much damage before the rain starts up again.
You can always bet on a wet easter weekend in CT ;-)

Dam levels are normal for this time of year, and current consumption causes the levels to drop approximately 1.5% per week. This includes agricultural use which seems quite high, but only lasts for about 4 months in summer. The currently total is 57.4% as at 11 Feb 2019: http://resource.capetown.gov.za/doc...ity research reports and review/damlevels.pdf

At this rate we could easily get though to the winter of 2020, even with below average rain during the 2019 season. We used to have around 18 months (500 days) reserves in CT to get us through one dry winter, but this target has been stretched to about 30 months (1000 days) or two dry winters, by proactive water restrictions.

A moderate intensity cold-front is brushing the SW-Cape early this morning (Tues 26th), bringing scattered rain showers over parts of Cape Town starting just after midnight. Cooler conditions are welcome.

Edit: Light rain earlier, but rather heavy shower at 8am!

P.S. Electric fence went off as all the accumulated dirt on the insulators got wet.
