No, but some areas are very low, with poor drainage

Another 40 mm was measured this morning in Vredekloof. On top of the 63 mm measured yesterday morning. That is a lot of rain in 48 hours. No flooding in our area, but the flood control dams are all full now. Some more, and we can well expect some roads to be flooded and blocked next.

The Berg River Dam is already above 105% full, so they can't exactly use it for flood control!? Oh, you mean local stream impoundments. Those help with flash floods, but less so with sustained heavy rain.

My Cape history is a bit scratchy but I think there was a "sand" castle before the current one which was closer to the water. But a large part of the Foreshore is reclaimed land.

Indeed. Central Karoo is not renowned for excessive flooding, as far as I know?
