Rain appoints Wipro to outsource call centre operations

going slighly off topic , even cars that are made in India , just feel cheap.Yes Ford iam looking at you :sneaky:

There are certain countries that just do things properly be it tech , manufacturing or whatever else ie Germany , Austria , Sweden etc.

They follow the rules, but then again they are willing to work hard to figure it out, not just get stuff on a silver platter. For many tech jobs is a way to get out of the caste system and go up in the world. And so they are willing to work hard.

I had one the other day assist me with getting stuff working on the cloud, whereas the cloud provider would send us a DIY guide without really any assistance. It took a lot of effort, but we got it done.
This is two fold.. I worked in a place where, for whatever reason, we outsourced some support to 3 or 4 Indians through an outsource agency.. we were paying the outsource company double or more per outsourced agent what the other local agents were earning and they were not worth the money in any way so ever..

They were not knowledgeable on the topics.in question, which we were told they were and had years of experience, constantly getting the local agents to do most their work and endless complaints from our customers about these agents.. the arrangement didn't last very long..

Where I work now, there are a lot of Indians.. plenty of them are really good at what they do, work hard and do it well.. there are still some who are not like that though..

Much like SA, there is good and then there is bad..

Is no one going to talk about the increased risk of scam call centers using this as a way to scam for gift cards?. I mean they have such a force against them in the US and UK with the likes of Jim Browning. Perogi and the likes. but we don't have anyone like them here in SA to scare them!

the issue is older South African citizens and even some south Africans are dumb as door nails when it comes to tech support!(no offence).

Are we sweep this under the rug?
This is going to be brilliant for them in india otherwise.

"Hi is is John from rain technical support. You have a wirus in your PC from the IP address"

And I am sure rain's "we have call center's in India" statement will be plastered on rain's website. Which will be great for them.

This isn't going to go down to well

Welp!. We'll probably see a increase in gift card sales?

And yes I created my account 5 minutes ago to raise this concern!!!

So this means that the personal information of Rain customers is going to be made available to Wipro employees, and will probably be used for nefarious purposes.

Just get this guy
Watch from 2:00 to see how het gets back at them. Lots of other videos from him "reverse scam" them.
That's just the problem. they super busy trying to fight the call centers targeting the UK and the US, i don't think they have time to add more countries to the list!

This seems like a bit of a stretch!
To be revisited (soon after Wipro employees are granted access to the personal information of Rain customers).

If you haven't watched any of Pierogi's videos about scammers, I suggest you do so.

I watch many scam hunting channels. Scam call centres in India does not mean all people from India are scammers. Using your logic will make you as a guy a rapist.

Its been a while.... Any idea if their support services has improved or deteriorated now that its been moved to Wipro?

Only way is up now...
You would think so, but no..

It's probable that the current SA staff dealing with customers are going to be training the Wipro staff, problem number 1.. Blind leading the blind..

Then there is going to be an initial gap with things like learning the systems, SOPs etc, more frustration for customers while they get up to speed with these things..

WIPRO prouds themselves for upliting poor youngsters in India. Speaks to the roots of the company. Admirable. However....
They'll use the local staff to teach the foreign staff, and the locals will resign and find themselves alternative employment, allowing WIPRO to attain cost savings using foreign staff and the local company to offload some costs.

Yup, I've seen this play with WIPRO as an actor before.

Good luck to all affected!
yup - its the reason why they are the big guys.

Also, I doubt this is RAIN's decision, most likely they were required to get a big name on board to reassure shareholders/potential buyers
