Rain connected to wrong tower

Been using rain for 2 months now and its been fine, 15mbps. Past 2 weeks its been barely usable at 1mbps.

I log into rain I check the tower, I notice its connected to a tower 2km away yet theres 3 towers alot closer around 600m from my house.
Im guessing this is why the speed is slow and rain didnt tell me why as yet. I want to connect to the closer tower cause my speed was great then.

Anyone have some advice?

Same here - I had good speeds until last week when I also noticed my B618 router is connecting to the wrong tower suddenly. I have a tower less than 100m away and used to always connect to that but for some reason it connects further away and internet service is basically unusable.

After a week of monitoring I noticed it will connect to the correct tower but only for about 5 minutes then it changes towers again.
Yes I tried moving the router around the house but no difference.
Even did a factory reset but no change.

I'm sure the problem is on their end.
Contacted the Rain rep. last week but still waiting for feedback.

No luck. I contacted them many times, they just keep apologizing and telling me to reboot my device or move it around the house. Ive been fine for 2 months, I sometimes got 30Mbps+. Ever since they connected me to another tower speed is under 2Mbps. Its definitely a problem with rain they did something recently that's affecting many people. Best thing is to switch off unlimited, don't waste your money

Same just round about answers not solving the real issue even if you move the router, reboot it just never works I went around the neighborhood with my mifi and it loves to stick to the far away tower not matter what and when it goes to far drops to no service refusing to connect to the closest tower even when I put it back into my normal Wi-Fi router something changed recently as I’ve been with rain for 2 years and no issues slow speed sometimes but still good now I’m stuck when the internet is more crucial than ever

You lucky your speed is 2mbps I’m stuck with 0.05mbps on another tower that it loves to connect to and pings of 200-800ms

Are you on 2600 or 1800mhz? I get better speeds from a tower 6km away on the 1800 band (3) than the one 900m from my house on 2600.

I just force the router to 1800mhz.

I dont use the sim card in a router, its in my phone

I am also experiencing same issue during May 2020 I was able to connect to closest tower 1.17KM but currently I can't connect to that tower anymore and signal is horrible it keeps dropping to no signal and Rain is the only network that has issues, that particular tower has Vodacom MTN and Telkom equipment/coverage

I am also experiencing same issue during May 2020 I was able to connect to closest tower 1.17KM but currently I can't connect to that tower anymore and signal is horrible it keeps dropping to no signal and Rain is the only network that has issues, that particular tower has Vodacom MTN and Telkom equipment/coverage
I have been a customer since last year June, where I used to get 20Mbps. Since April I have been getting sub 1Mbps and on the odd occasion 2Mbps.
I have the same issue of the tower with best line of sight dropping my connection every single night and then not being able to connect until about 7am in the morning.
The Rain team, if they respond, do so after like 3 weeks and multiple escalations, then they will just copy-paste the same response about telling you to reboot and move the router around.
When you tell them for the umpteenth time that you have tried that then they say, their networks team is investigating, but honestly they will do nothing for you after that to resolve your problem.

I don't even think they have a networks team for the 4G service and only employ low level support people.
The network is probably managed by Vodacom or other networks since many of the towers I am picking up are Vodacom towers.
Vodacom probably prioritises its own traffic hence Rains hands being tied to do anything as it is not their own infrastructure.
