Rain debt collectors

Phowee rain, what did you do this time? Dingle-berry attorneys are gonna rack you up a lekker bill for your bad housekeeping.

Is there a consumer ombud on mybb? Harrassing and threatening people is pretty serious.

My daughter cancelled her Rain account in October 2022 when she moved to Europe. Suddenly we are receiving letters of demand . Was basically told we are lying that we cancelled the contract online. I have sent numerous service requests to Rain to contact me and this has still not happened. NuDebt was contacted and I asked for proof of her contract as well as proof of sim and data usage and their answer is, an invoice was raised so data was used, highly unlikely as my daughter lives in the netherlands and has the sim card in a box over there. I have had the phone dropped in my ear twice already and still no one bothers to contact me so that i can resolve this. Rain is month to month and hers was a sim only deal. How can you invoice people for services not used as the contract was CANCELLED! Now they want to blacklist her, yet I am trying everything to get this resolved but getting no assistance from anyone.

If she's in NL, the blacklisting won't affect her.

Agreed but if she ever moves back it will. It is shocking how quick Rain is to demand money but has ZERO interest in actually providing customer service

rain are kants... simple as that. Should never have signed up with them in the first place, but that's too late now.
Usually in situations like this, it pays to have a lawyer on retainer, or something like LegalWise. Getting an attorney to fight them usually sends them packing.

similar situation....

I cancelled Rain in early 2023, as reception was useless, I made sure to pay the correct amount owed at the time. I cancelled with them, and switched over to Afrihost. After I cancelled, I noticed that Rain were still trying to bill me for money owed. Queried this, and said there were a few months, in which data had been used, that haven't been paid for, this is because apparently payment doesn't kick in till a few months later. I since heard nothing from them, and eventually went on to forget about it. I have since fallen ill with mental health related complications, and had to temporarily move to New Zealand, for what would have been a holiday, but ended up staying indefinitely.

I have had a lot on, in this past year. However the fact is, I have always attempted to pay my bills when due. I am not attempting to deny responsibility. Yes, I did consume the data, Rain should have been more clear on that billing only kicks in a few months later. I had completely forgotten about this, I was only reminded when I got a SMS sent to my SA number about my account being handed over to debt collectors. I have over R1400 owing.........

I don't know what this will achieve, I have just over R1000 in my account, which I use to pay my remaining debt orders in SA, I don't take out, or get anything on credit, so a dent in my credit score won't really affect me that much. I would have appreciated it more, instead of Rain sending me messages, and emails about getting special re-connection deals, if I went back with them, they should rather have notified me that this account is outstanding. I wasn't warned, this is just out of the blue.

I won't be paying them a cent, till I have some sort of engagement with their customer service representatives.
