Rain has no plans to stop offering uncapped data packages

Rain recently launched unlimited 4G data for phones for R379, which complements its other uncapped data plans.

Rain is in the unique position of launching uncapped data products while other mobile operators fear to go this route.

The caution from mobile networks around uncapped mobile data is justified. Many companies have launched uncapped wireless products using licensed spectrum in the past with disastrous consequences.

I hope they can keep the momentum going, even with Willem Roos leaving.

When Matthew Tagg left WebAfrica, it was never the same again. Same with MWeb's Rudi Jansen.

This industry needs maverick CEOs in order to move it forward, otherwise the status quo will remain for decades to come.

Actually it'd do them good to have caps. Like 100GB-500GB for 4G and drop uncapped. At relatively cheap costs of course.

Uncapped from RAIN 4G is a gimmick.
Uncapped at 1.5 Mbps is useless. This was the speed I was getting by the time I cancelled my R250 package. It started out at 20Mbps but degraded pretty fast as more people started using it.

This was in April, around the time many people started working from home.

remove video streaming shaping, its terrible and forcing users to use vpn which breaks the shaping system anyway

No, they can do uncapped, just need to upgrade the infrastructure, it's the same argument as DSL had.
Once spectrum auctions finalize, we'll see what happens, since Rain's temporary allocation during lock down wasn't in a band they could use (https://mybroadband.co.za/news/cell...-what-mobile-operators-are-doing-with-it.html).

Rain moving to 5G in more areas will also help, 5G has about double the spectrum efficiency, I do hope that government realizes they should auction so that networks have contiguous blocks.

Lol you want MyBB flooded with more complaints?
There will be less. The funny thing about all these services is that the problems only started when the restrictions did. Iburst became crap when they changed the packages. Telkom became crap when they turned it into a capped product. The remedy is usually worse than the so-called identified problem.

I come form the tortuous journey with rain. I ran away as far as my legs can carry me. Horrendous speeds and yet I paid R479 a month.

Rain is hopeless. I used to pay R479 a month for a crappy service. 1.25 Mbps. No more. I am out and gone for good.

I often complain about rain because every so often it won't work right but overall I'm happy with my 5G.

The talking about reserve price starting at R2billion a block of spectrum, not many orgs can afford billions and that aint going to lower the price.

Do they have any plans to start offering usable uncapped data?
Their current offerings dont seem to work for the majority of people.
