Rain is SLOW!

Go read this again
Rain’s mobile network quality plummets
Rudolph Muller9 July 2019

In 2019 rain was the only mobile operator whose average dl slowed - from 21Mbps to 17Mbps. FFS even Telkom beat them.

I'm no telecomms expert but common sense dictates that there cannot be that many reasons.

Why don't rain management explain these reasons instead of making asinine statements about unlimited being limited.

I forgot to add that all telecomms companies have unsatisfied customers complainging about everything - from poor service to over charging to missing airtima/data

With rain there are only 2 things people complain about:
Poor signal quality
Poor customer service

I think the 1st should be a telecomms company's primary goal
And a company with poor customer service just shows disdain for clients

This is the speeds I'm getting at 2am in the daytime it's unusable especially around 12pm it becomes so bad I can't even chat on telegram I get the connecting message it has gone from stream 4K on YouTube to being an unable to load GIFs I guess this what they meant rain 19hours uncapped would end in 2020Screenshot_20200405-022434516.jpg

It's for the masses, what did tiy expect... Substandard BS as always

At this rate, I'm highly considering their unlimited 24/7 offering. Maybe I'll actually get the 10Mbps which I'm not getting now.

Quoted the following directly from an interview Roos gave 2 years ago referring to Vodacom, MTN et al:

"I suppose it’s sometimes difficult for existing incumbents – particularly large players – to make big changes to the way that they operate, just given existing revenue streams, systems, legacy and such."

Yes and sometimes they became large players because of the way they operate.

It's all good and well wanting to be the maverick turning the industry on it's head but sometimes a wheel is a wheel and you can't improve the blue print.

And this may explain why rain is currently ranked where it is

"Gareth, I’ll be honest I’m a complete novice. I have been in the insurance industry all my life. I have a bit of experience in operating in retail financial services by profession, so I like numbers, and there are many numbers in the telecoms world."

Actuaries are great at analysing data to calculate insurance premiums. Not so much at technical issues or client services.

Maybe he should be reminded of the following:

"I think when you start a new business and you have the opportunity to do things differently, a very good place to start is to identify the pain points that consumers in your industry experience and see if you can solve those. And that’s what we tried to do with Rain. We really tried to simplify the offer, so it’s easily understandable. We wanted to make it really consumer friendly and I hope at least to some extent that we’ve achieved that."

You can simplifying all you want, if your product sucks it sucks.

Ek sit met die selfde probleem ,
Ek het beide Rain 4G en 5G en altwee het n probleem ,
Op die 4G kan hulle my nie help nie , Op die 5G het hulle vir my gese ek moet downgrade na di kleiner paket .
It seems like even they have no faith in their 5G knowing they promised what they can't deliver. I think they are overwhelmed by the uptake and now they have no way out hence the pathetic sp3eds we're all getting.

At this rate, I'm highly considering their unlimited 24/7 offering. Maybe I'll actually get the 10Mbps which I'm not getting now.
I can tell you right now that there is no priority for people on the 24/7 plan.
So upgrading will not solve anything

My daughter got a 4G uncapped Rain sim just before lockdown for work purposes. I had spoken to someone who had 2 rain accounts and was very unhappy minutes before calling my daughter to tell her to go with Supersonic instead but I was to late. It has been a mixed bag. Streams ok but data downloads seem slow and sometimes Youtube just won't work. Might change to Supersonic if it is constantly kak.

Are you using a vpn for fast.com? That is a netflix tool and it is shaped without a vpn.

@Romito

For reference, fast.com with vpn:

and fast.com without vpn:

Both tested right now on 250pm package.

On the other hand, speedtest.net is not shaped seemingly, and I get better speeds there without a vpn.
Today It's 45mbps, a little slower than our usual which can go as high as 60-80.

Thirdly, I'd like to comment on the fact that not all routers even support the 2600TDD band, if you are looking at getting a setup that will undeniably get you a satisfactory experience on rain 4g if the infrastructure is in your area, grab a b618, and an xpol-6 Poynting antenna, then mess around with it for hours on end until you find the perfect areas for it to be. Ideally, attach it to a pole or tall lampstand and move that around.

This is my last post regarding Pain. (Spelfout, jammer).

Router will be switched off, sim cancelled and then i'll use my MTN sim/mifi going forward...with a smile.

Be good.
