After using RAIN as my primary internet connection at home for about 18 months, I've just removed my RAIN sim card from my router for the last time. 28GB will expire tomorrow as I'm unable to utilise the remaining data at these speeds. This is my last RAIN speedtest:

Mobile or Fixed Rain?

Fixed. The 110GB/month for R550 deal. Does it matter though? Do they differentiate between mobile and fixed in terms of network priority? I also have a mobile RAIN sim which is ready for use.

Well this thread is about the mobile network. Fixed and mobile are different networks as far as I know.

Interesting, I had no idea. Would be great if someone could confirm if this is indeed the case. Thanks.

Fixed are sold by ISPs. Sales were stopped late last year due to over subscription.
Mobile is sold direct by Rain.co.za.
When I checked the coverage map on Axxess.co.za for Fixed and on Rain.co.za for Mobile there was good coverage for Mobile and none for fixed.
And so on. Anecdotal.

Fixed and mobile are the same physical RAN and Backhaul network, they are split at the DC.
Fixed is given Public IPs, while mobile is carrier grade NAT.
Seems the fixed coverage map is no longer being updated. But the mobile one is.

I enabled the 19 hour unlimited option on the 28th of April by setting my spend limit to R250 as required. It's the 1st of May today and Rain hasn't debited my card and I haven't used the sim card but I get this message on my dashboard "You have R8.06 left before you reach your spend limit. To stay connected please increase your spend limit." is that normal?

Yup, have a similar issue. I enabled unlimited for R250 staring on 1 May. My spend limit was set to R250. This morning I see my account is disabled and my spend limit of R600 used up. No idea where R600 comes from or how I could have used peak hours as the first peak hours I would access is only from 18h00 today. Something is very wrong.

I logged a ticket as they closed today so just came here to vent a bit.

What am I missing or is this not supposed to happen.

Using mobile direct from Rain.

Agreed, which is why I've got 2 B618's; one for Rain, and one for Telkom Mobile. These are connected to a dual WAN router and I explicitly schedule when the Telkom connection kicks in (and out).
Is this possible to do with a b618 and b593?

You can use any LTE routers for this. The key component is the one you use to switch between the routers. I use an old tp-link wireless router with openwrt, others use dedicated devices such as the tp-link load balancer while something like an ubiquiti edgerouter x will also work.

Suspect you saw the notification on 28th that your unlimited data would only be activated on 1may?

I have the same problem, sim was stored in a drawer for a full month.
Usage shows:
Unlimited Data 0.00 GB
Pay As You Use 0.00 GB
Amount R250
I know its a small amount to pay but at least have an option to pause an unused sim card

If you've signed up for the unlimited data they will bill you whether you use it or not

rain mobile with unlimited off peak, allows WhatsApp text only during peak hours. No image, sound or video messages though. I have noticed this of late.
